Welcome to David Street School
Welcome to Deacon who joined us at David Street School this week.
Nau mai, haere mai ki te Kura o Rawiri.
Powhiri and Blessing
Last Friday morning we held a Pōwhiri to officially welcome new staff members, new students and families to David Street School. We appreciated the support of our many kaumatua, parents and whānau who were able to attend.
We were honoured by the attendance of Hone Thompson, Te Tumuaki ō Te Kingitanga. Hone is the Kingmaker and chief of Ngāti Hauā and his presence added great mana to the welcome.
We wish all new members of our David Street School family a happy and rewarding time with us.
The occasion was further blessed by a moving and significant presentation of a long awaited photo of our much loved kuia, Te Ao Mārama Maaka.
This was accompanied by Te Ao Mārama’s personal gift of her korowai (cloak) ‘Roimata ō Te Aroha’ with both now proudly displayed in our school’s main entrance.

Home and School News
The David Street Home and School Committee have been busy already this year, supporting our children organising sausage sizzles, pizza lunches and sandpits.
Have you seen the new sandpit by the senior/middle school playground?
The Home and School were the instigators of the sandpit as part of their ongoing playground upgrade plans, and supplied the timber surround. Jason Stevenson donated labour to the the pit and Bowers Brothers donated the sand.
The Home and School are currently arranging the sandpit cover to finish it off.
Thank you everyone, Our children love it.

Payments to our school account via internet banking
Internet Banking to our school account is a convenient way for many parents to make payments for our after school care program (CFK) and items like sports fees etc...
When using internet banking to pay for school related items/fees please remember to reference what you are paying for and if applicable your child's name so we can allocate your payment to the correct place.
e.g Johnny Smith / Camp or reference CFK if you are paying for your child's after school care program.
Your help is much appreciated.
Absentees - Please contact the School Office
If your child is going to be late or absent, please contact the school office in the first instance, we will notify your child's teacher of any absences.
The preferred way to report an absence is via our School APP.
Alternatively you can leave a detailed message on our dedicated absence line.
Phone the school office: 889-7780 ext 1.
In line with ministry policy we do need to know the reason your child is away.
If your child is not at school, and we are not sure why, someone from the office will give you a call.
The School App can be downloaded to your phone via the App Store for your Apple or Android device. Search 'SchoolAppsNZ"
Once downloaded search for David Street School on the App.
Our App is our main way of sending out important notices/updates to our school community.
Lost Property
Each Term we always have extremely large amount of lost property. We do our best to manage and ensure lost property is returned to the owner. Please name your child’s clothing, including towels, togs and goggles. This helps us get items back to where they belong.
