This edition of CCSD Staff News & Notes includes a holiday message of thanks from Superintendent Dr. Steven Flynt, recognition of the 2025 CCSD Teacher of the Year, important holiday closures and dates, as well as positive news highlights celebrating students and staff across the district.

Dr. Steven Flynt, Superintendent of the Columbia County School District, brings holiday greetings and highlights student achievements we have celebrated so far this school year.

Congratulations, to Ms. Tabitha Purvis, 5th grade math and science teacher at Euchee Creek Elementary School, for being named the 2025 CCSD Teacher of the Year.

Winter Break

• December 19, 2024 - Early Dismissal/last day of semester
• December 20, 2024 - Teacher Work Day/no school for students
• December 20, 2024 - End of month pay date
• December 23, 2024 - January 3, 2025 - Winter Break
• December 24, 2024 - January 1, 2025 - District Offices Closed
• January 3, 2025 - District Professional Learning Day for staff, no school for students
• January 6, 2025 - Students return for first day of second semester

Earning the Fine Arts Diploma Seal indicates a student’s creativity and talent in the fine arts. To earn this distinction, students demonstrate their ability to appreciate or pursue careers in the creative arts industry. Read more about the seal on the Fine Arts webpage.

More than 400 high school students participated in the second annual Columbia County School District Healthcare Careers Expo, which is designed to educate students with an expressed interest in a career in healthcare about specialized areas that are available right here in the community. In case you missed it, check out this video compilation recognizing CCSD employees who have served in the Armed Forces. The video was presented during the November 12 Board of Education meeting in recognition of Veterans Day. Thank you, veterans, for your service. We are proud you are a part of our team.

Greenbrier High School Girls' Wrestling Head Coach Ms. Donell Bradley has established Greenbrier High as one of the top girls wrestling programs in the state of Georgia. Congratulations, Coach Bradley!

Ms. Forney is an Assistant Principal at Grovetown Middle School. Congratulations, Ms. Forney, and thank you for all you do to engage, enrich, and inspire students and staff!

Congratulations, to Ms. Della Hughes, who was approved by the Board of Education as the new CCSD Director of Student Support. Ms. Hughes is currently serving as an Assistant Principal at Lakeside High School.

Last week was National School Psychologist Appreciation Week. Special thanks to our nine School Psychologists and three Psychometrists for the great work they do in service to students and staff.

This week is American Education Week, a time to celebrate the important role of public schools and the value of ensuring every child receives a quality education. Special thanks to all of our teachers and support staff who make the CCSD a great place to learn and work. Thank you for all you do to engage, enrich, and inspire!

Adjustments to SHBP/ADP enrollments must be made via phone at 800-610-1863, due to an extension through November 30, 2024.

Members/employees will have to verify their residence is in one of the federally-declared disaster areas. Before calling, please have the following information on all dependents who need coverage: full name, social security number, and date of birth.

Open enrollment for voluntary life insurance enrollments is now closed. Employees who elected over the guaranteed amount (or did this for spouses) who were NOT grandfathered in, will soon receive EOI forms and the deadline for submitting those.
