Sturgeon Program Brings Hands-On Learning to Third and Fifth Graders
Last week, our third and fifth graders had an opportunity to learn about lake sturgeons through a special visit from the St. Clair-Detroit River Sturgeon Program. Students explored what makes these ancient fish so unique, their life cycle, and the important role they play in our local waterways.
One of the highlights of the presentation was the chance to see and even touch a live sturgeon! This hands-on experience helped students gain a deeper appreciation for these fascinating creatures and understand why efforts to protect them are so important.
Did you know? Lake sturgeon have been around for over 150 million years and can live for more than 100 years and sturgeons were around the time of the dinosaurs!!
We are so grateful for this amazing experience and hope it inspires our students to care for the wildlife in our local waters!
1st Grade Celebrates the 100th Day of School
The students in Mrs. Palus' and Miss King's classes have been busy celebrating the 100th Day Of School! To start the day, they made 100’s day crowns and drew a picture of what they will look like in 100 years. The fun continued during stations where students have 100 seconds to build a tower out of red cups or create something from shape blocks! Using bingo daubers, students made groups of 10 up to 100 in a gumball machine and participated in a movement challenge where they had to do as many pushups, jumping jacks, or write their name as many times as they could in 100 seconds.
Student-Led Conferences
Twain Families,
Student-Led Conferences are scheduled for Thursday, March 6th from 1:00-3:30 and from 4:30-7:30.Classroom teachers will be sending out invitations via email to ALL families by Monday, February 24th.
This conference will be a true Celebration of Learning and look a little different than March conferences have looked in the past. Parents/Guardians are asked to sign up for a block of time. During this period, students will review their goals with you, highlight work, and showcase what they have achieved since October. There will be 4-6 viewing stations set up in each classroom. Teachers will transition between groups during this celebration and assist as needed. Typically this will take about 10-15 minutes; however, families are welcome to come in anytime during the window they have reserved.
Please know our special education staff will be available for walk-ins during the entire day. Specials teachers will be rotating between assigned buildings; however, if you’d like to speak to someone specifically just let us know in the main office and we will have them follow up with you.
Our goal is for 100% of students and families to attend this event. We look forward to celebrating your child’s learning with you.
Sincerely,
Keith Tonn

Twain Parking Lot Reminders
The North lot is NOT a drop-off/ pick-up zone. It is for parking only. We MUST keep the loop open for busses and emergency vehicles. This rule applies to everyone, so please be cooperative and follow it.
The large, central lot has two lanes: a drop-off/ pick-up lane on the outside of the loop and a driving lane on the inside.
Please note: Drivers MAY NOT get out of your car while in the outside drop-off/ pick-up lane. Your students must exit to the outside of the loop, and drivers must not exit the car to walk students up or pick them up. If you have younger children who need to be walked up or picked up at the door, you MUST park your car in one of the lots or on the street.
Smoking and pets are not permitted on school grounds. Please leave your pets at home for the safety and comfort of all of our students and families.
Please do NOT swear on school grounds. We are trying to set a positive example for behavior for our Twain Comets, and shouting and swearing at other drivers does not set the right example for our kids. We ask our students to be respectful, organized, cooperative, kind, and safe, and we expect those behaviors to be modeled by our parents, too.
