A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OLSON
As I sat back and watched the 3rd grade concert it reminded me what a great time of the year it is in the mind of our students! It was so exciting to see the joy in the faces of the students and families yesterday at the show. One thing I have noticed in my time here as the Heritage Principal, is that when students are asked by their teacher to write about something memorable, they usually write about time spent with someone that is special to them rather than an item or gift that they received. As the holiday season approaches, please give your child the gift of extra time. Give the students an I.O.U. for a special event or activity during the vacation week. During this season we would like to extend our thanks to parents and guardians who work with us as a team to help make school an incredibly rewarding experience for their children. Thank you also to all of our community members and parents who organize events for the families of Charlton. With that in mind we do have two events going on at this time:
THE SEASON OF GIVING
Project 351 Food Drive: This food drive is being conducted by a DCRSD student who is involved with the state run Project 351 which encourages youth across the state to volunteer in their local community. We are accepting non-perishable items at HES to go to this worthy cause.
Sock and Underwear Drive: We are also collecting new unopened socks and underwear for homeless ADULTS. These items will be donated to a food pantry and soup kitchen in Worcester.
DISMISSAL AND PARENT PICKUP INFORMATION
A reminder that parent pick up begins at 2:55 PM when the bell rings. If you need to pick up your child before 2:55, you should come in to the school office and it will be marked as an early dismissal. PLEASE PICK UP CHILDREN AFTER SCHOOL AT THE DESIGNATED PICKUP AREA ON THE SIDE OF THE SCHOOL AND DO NOT BLOCK THE FIRE LANE IN FRONT OF THE SCHOOL. Picking up in the front of the school for regular dismissal is not allowed due to safety concerns with students heading to their buses. Thank you for your cooperation.
FIRE LANE
Please do not use the fire lane area in front of the building during the hours of 8:15 AM - 9:30 AM and again at 2:45 PM - 3:30 PM. If you need to come into the office please park in the parking lot and enter through the main doors.
HOLIDAY BREAK COMING UP DECEMBER 24-JANUARY 2
With winter vacation quickly approaching we realize that some families may start their holiday travels a little early. With that in mind we would like to remind you of the elementary school’s policy of not sending work home with the students before the vacation. The main reason for this is most of our curriculum requires direct instruction and guidance from the teachers in a manner that warrants it being taught at school and not home. This results in much frustration at a time when families should be enjoying each other’s time. We will work with families upon their return to ensure that students will be taught any needed lessons.
We hope you have a wonderful Holiday Break!
Wishing You a Joyful Holiday Season and a Happy and Healthy New Year! Cheers to 2023!
