Greetings, La Porte ISD Family. Today is a great day to be a Bulldog!
Wow! What a Saturday at the Sylvan Beach Parade and Festival! First, it was a great pleasure to host the Miss Sylvan Beach Pageant Breakfast at our Administration Building. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did. Afterward, I got a week's worth of steps in as I walked and ran the parade route! It was so wonderful reconnecting with people and making new friends as I made my way down Broadway and Main streets. I was also excited to see La Porte ISD schools and organizations displaying their pride along the route.
We have just a handful of STAAR exams on the schedule as we work our way towards the end of the 2023-24 school year. I cannot say enough how appreciative I am for the dedication of our teachers, parents and students as they strive for excellence.
Meanwhile, end-of-year performances and ceremonies are plenty over the next couple weeks. Please consider joining me to witness how great our students really are.
Superintendent Shout-outs
- A huge shout-out to the 35 Lomax Jr. High students who were recently inducted to the National Junior Honor Society! Your scholarship and service are exceptional.
- Mega congratulations to Arrysa Rodrguez, who will continue a long tradition on May 3 of representing La Porte at the UIL State Track and Field Championships.
- Please join me in congratulating our Lady Dawgs Softball Team for advancing to the Bi-District playoffs. They were fierce in their efforts against their state-ranked first round opponent.
- The Bulldogs Baseball Team enters the playoffs this week. Please join me in wishing them well!
- Finally, our JROTC cadets are among the finest. I want to congratulate all who were honored at their recent awards ceremony, and I also want to thank them for their service to La Porte ISD. Whenever we call on our cadets, they answer, and we are extremely grateful and proud.
Thank you for all that you do. I hope you have a great week!
With La Porte pride,
Walter Jackson, Ed.D.

We're getting close to our 1.5 million reading minutes goal
We are getting closer to our goal. We have 18 days of school left to reach our 1.5 million-minute reading goal (We are currently at 1.07 million minutes). If everyone will read 20 min each day and log that in Beanstack, we will far exceed our goal. We can do this! Remember that readers are leaders!
Lomax Jr. High inducts 35 to National Junior Honor Society
Lomax Jr. High School recently celebrated the induction of 35 new members to the National Junior Honor Society, 17 of whom are student-athletes. This brings the total campus membership to 78.
The NJHS elevates a school’s commitment to the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship and helps middle-level students develop the knowledge and skills to become well-rounded student leaders in their school, community, and beyond, according to the organization's website.
JROTC cadets honored for their achievements
Various awards were issued to recognize the efforts and achievements of La Porte High School JROTC cadets at the annual awards ceremony on April 19. Cadet Dirk Johnson was presented with a Bronze Medal Award, by Sons of the American Revolution, in recognition of his outstanding leadership. Sons of the American Revolution also presented La Porte High School JROTC with a Flag Certificate in recognition of exemplary presentation of the flag of the United States of America. Cadet Michelle Springer received the award on behalf of LPHS JROTC.
Athletics
Aryssa Rodriguez to represent LP at State Track & Field Championships
Aryssa Rodriguez will join a long line of elite La Porte High School runners when she represents the district at the UIL State Track & Field Championships.
During a year throughout which she was ranked among the state’s top four hurdlers, Rodriguez secured her spot in Austin after finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles at the April 20 regional meet. Third-place finishers do not automatically qualify for the state meet, rather their (regional) finish times are compared, and the fastest hurdler among the group earns a state berth.
Bulldogs Baseball Team enters playoffs this week
Congratulations to the La Porte Bulldogs Baseball Team, which will represent 18-5A next week as the third seed in the bi-district playoffs vs. Port Neches Groves!
Game 1 - Thursday, 7 p.m. at LP
Game 2 - Friday, 7 p.m. at PNG
Game 3 - Saturday at Goose Creek Memorial H.S. (Game time is either 12 or 4 p.m., depending on another series being played there.)
Jr. high soccer teams qualify for playoffs
The 7th and 8th grade girls soccer teams for LPJ and LXJ both clinched spots in the district playoffs! The first round games will be next Friday, May 3 at Bonnette Junior High. The 7th grade games will be at 4:30 p.m.; the 8th grade games will be at 5:45 p.m. The winners from Friday's games will play in the championship games on Saturday, May 4.
May 2 - National Signing Day
Thirteen La Porte High School student-athletes are set to sign their national letters of intent on Thursday to continue their athletic and academic careers at the college level. The event begins at 9 a.m.
