St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 7 | 12 JUNE 2025
“May Jesus come to bless our students on their Confirmation Day.
May they feel His loving presence in a very special way. And as they strive to follow in His footsteps, may He bless our students lives with many graces and lasting happiness. Amen.”
Dear Parents and Carers
As we approach the final weeks of Term 2, I would like to extend my thanks to our school community for the continued support, engagement, and commitment to the many events that enrich school life here at St Columba’s.
This Sunday, we join the universal Church in celebrating the Solemnity of the Holy Trinity. This feast calls us to reflect on the mystery of God as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and how we are called to live in unity and love, just as God exists in perfect relationship.
We extend our congratulations to the Year 6 students who received the Sacrament of Confirmation last weekend. The celebration was a reverent and significant milestone in their faith journey. The remainder of the cohort will receive the Sacrament this coming Saturday evening, and we ask the community to keep these students and their families in prayer during this special time.
Students who are interested in serving as altar servers are kindly asked to contact the Parish.
Last Friday, our school came together to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron saint, St Columba. The day was filled with a spirit of joy, reflection, and fun, with students actively engaging in Mission games as part of our fundraising efforts. Thank you to all staff, students and in particular Year 6 students for their participation and enthusiasm, which made the day a wonderful success.
On Tuesday, several of our students took part in the VANS Carnival. It was a lively and enjoyable event, and our students are to be commended for their positive participation and sportsmanship throughout the day.
We remind all families to adhere strictly to the school’s parking policy and street verge signage. Please be aware that parking in ‘No Standing’ or ‘No Parking’ zones is not permitted. Additionally, we ask that families refrain from using the Church carpark for school drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students and respect for our parish space remains a shared responsibility.
Our next Parents and Friends Association meeting will be held on Tuesday evening at 7:00pm in the staffroom. All parents are warmly invited to attend and contribute to upcoming initiatives and community events.
A reminder to all families that Term 2 will conclude on Friday, 4 July. Term 3 will commence on Tuesday, 22 July. We encourage families to make the necessary arrangements to ensure students are well-rested and ready for a productive Term 3.
God bless, and keep safe.

Bishop’s LifeLink Appeal & St Columba Mission Games Day
Last week, our school community proudly supported the Bishop’s LifeLink Appeal through our annual St Columba Mission Games Day — a fun and faith-filled event with a strong focus on service, compassion and outreach.
Through games, activities, and a shared spirit of giving, our students helped raise an incredible $689 for LifeLink — a Catholic initiative that supports people in need across Western Australia, including families facing hardship, those experiencing homelessness, and individuals seeking mental health and crisis support.
It was wonderful to see our students live out the Gospel values of kindness, generosity and inclusion while learning about the importance of Catholic social teaching and caring for others in our community.
A huge thank you to all students, staff and families who contributed to this special day. Your support helps make a real difference in the lives of others.
Second-Hand Book Sale Success! 📚
A big congratulations to our Library Ministry Team and Mrs La Rosa for their wonderful efforts in running our Second-Hand Book Sale last week. With a fantastic range of pre-loved books on offer, students were excited to browse and pick up a great read — all while supporting a good cause!
Thanks to the generosity of our school community, the sale raised $180, which will go directly towards additional literacy resources for our library.
It was heartening to see our students engage with reading and take part in an initiative that encourages sustainability, community spirit, and a love of books.
Well done to everyone involved! 📖👏
Mission in Motion – Year 5 Christian Service Initiative
We are excited to introduce you to Mission in Motion - our new student-led service group here at St Columba’s.
As the name suggests, we’re all about putting our faith into action by helping others in simple but meaningful ways.
Our mission is to bring kindness, care, and community spirit to life right here at school and beyond.
Some of the projects we will be working on next term include:
- Cans for cans initiative – We will be collecting the 10 cent containers and cashing them in to buy cans of soup. We will then donate them to Shopfront, one of our Likelink charitable organisations, for people who are less fortunate than ourselves.
- Sewing and decorating cushions to bring comfort to the sick and elderly.
- Helping to keep our school clean by regularly tidying up the shared Kalyara Mia space.
- Spending recess time with our pre-primary students - playing, reading, and helping them feel cared for and included.
- Reading at lunchtime to our younger students once a week. Come along and enjoy a story or two.
Mission in Motion is about using our time and energy to make a positive difference and reminding others that even small acts of service can bring hope and joy.
Thank you for supporting us, and we look forward to working together as a school community to keep our mission moving forward! Watch this space.
Keeping Safe: Child Protection Curriculum (KS:CPC)
The Department for Education Child protection in schools, early childhood education and care services policy states that ‘all children and young people in the department’s preschools and schools will access the approved child protection curriculum’.
Keeping Safe is the Child Protection Program that all CEWA schools follow.
The KS:CPC teaches children and young people to recognise abuse, tell a trusted adult, understand what is appropriate and inappropriate touching and ways of keeping themselves safe.
Themes
The curriculum is based on two main themes which are presented through topics and activities.
· Theme 1: We all have the right to be safe
· Theme 2: We can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust.
Focus Areas
The two themes are explored through four Focus Areas, which are examined in growing complexity in accordance with the age of the learners.
1. The right to be safe
2. Relationships
3. Recognising and reporting abuse
4. Protective strategies.
More information can be found on the KS:CPC website: http://tiny.cc/KSCPC-ParentCarerInfo
Hi everyone
I hope you are all having a wonderful week, albeit the dramatic change in weather.
At our last P&F meeting, there was a discussion around having a “mums catchup” for our lovely ladies of the school. As a result, clear your calendars as Friday, 1 August has been booked. Details are in the image attached to this newsletter.
We are also now locking in extra curricular for Term 3. If there is something you would like to see included in this offering, please let your P&F rep know. For those that have been asking, yes lunchtime chess will be back. Hooray!
Have a wonderful week everyone.
