WMS Weekly Warrior
December 12/16/2024
Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School,
The WMS Winter concert is Wednesday at 6:00. Doors will open at 5:30 and the concert will begin at 6:00. Additional parking will be available across the street at Mitchell School.
We would like to express our gratitude to the entire WMS community for their flexibility and understanding during last Wednesday's power outage. The staff at WMS was exceptional, as always, and we would also like to recognize our students for their outstanding cooperation. They followed all directives from the adults promptly, even in the absence of power, until they were dismissed shortly after. This experience was a true testament to the Warrior Way. Thank you once again for your support during this challenging situation.
Thank you to the LEO Club for organizing the WMS Toy Drive. Toys were collected and will be donated to local hospitals for young patients who may be spending the holidays away from home. This initiative is a wonderful way to support our community during the holiday season.
We are excited to celebrate our Warriors at the end of Trimester 1. A total of 134 students were recognized as "Champion Warriors" for consistently adhering to our behavior expectations. These students received a certificate honoring their accomplishments today.
Additionally, we are proud to recognize 30 "World Class Warriors" who also followed our behavior expectations and were nominated by at least two staff members. These 30 students are invited to a special gathering this Friday in our Library to celebrate their achievements.
This will be the final edition of the Weekly Warrior for 2024. On behalf of the Woodbury Middle School staff, we wish all our friends and families a happy and healthy holiday season. We encourage students to disconnect from their devices and cherish precious family time over the break. We look forward to seeing everyone in 2025.
Have a great week,
WMS Admin
Bill Nemec, Principal
Aimee Shuhart, Interim Assistant Principal
Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
