Hello Vernon Families and Friends,
Hello Vernon Families-
An important goal set by Portland Public Schools is that every student reads at grade level. Reading at grade level is essential for succeeding in school and beyond. All PPS students engage in district-level and school/classroom reading assessments multiple times a year so we can monitor each students’ progress in reading.
Students not reading at grade level will be receiving targeted instruction to support those specific needs. All PPS 1st-5th grades now have a scheduled time each day called the What I Need (WIN) block. During WIN, students engage in learning activities and instruction specific to their needs. Students may be working on independent tasks, with the homeroom teacher in a group, or may be pulled by someone on our intervention team for more intensive, focused support.

Farm-Fresh Fundraiser | Apples for Vernon from Kiyokawa Family Orchards
A Fall Farm-Fresh Fundraiser...
The Vernon PTA is partnering with Kiyokawa Family Orchards again to raise funds for our
school. You can pre-order 20 pounds of delicious apples and support valuable programs, activities
and supplies for our kids.
Check out the options & stock up on fresh apples for snacking and/or fall baking. What goes best
with delectable NW apples? Homemade caramel sauce, of course. Add on an 8oz. jar with your
apple order for only $7. YUM! Maybe you want to share a box with freinds, or order a few boxes
to split up for an entire class. It’s pie season and the options are endless!
Honeycrisp
20 lb. Box $60
Described as "explosively crisp," making an excellent fresh eating apple. The flesh is crisp, dense, and
juicy with a good balance of sweet and tart and possessing a delicate aroma. A wonderful all purpose
apple that stores remarkably well.
Mixed Premium
20 lb. Box $55
Mixed premium boxes contain 4 to 5 of the following varieties: Fuji, Gala, Crimson Crisp, Newtown, Red
Ruben, Jonagold, Cameo, and Ambrosia. Pretty!
Orders taken until 11/1. https://www.vernonpta.org/vernon-store/apples
Pickup will be around November 8th from a home in the Vernon area. Exact time &
location to come once the farm confirms our order.

Vernon’s E-Bike Lending Library
The Vernon Bike Bus has been given an Aventon Abound cargo e-bike for our community to share. Glady's Bikes on Alberta generously built it for free. People in the Vernon community are invited to borrow the bike for up to one month, and then pass it along to the next interested person.
Please make sure you have a place to secure the bike and store it out of the elements.
Complete this form if you are interested in borrowing the bike, and share it with anyone else who may want to give it a try.
