PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Friday, January 10th
There is a lot of information to share as we kick off the new year so please take a few moments to go through this newsletter.
The weather reminded us that it is winter this week - please remember to send students in with all cold weather gear each morning! We will go out unless the wind chill is below zero or the conditions are too wet/icy.
Thank you!
Ellie Chin
MAP Testing (NEW POST!)
MAP Testing begins at Patton next week for all of our students in grades K-5. Classroom teachers will share specific testing schedules for both reading and math. We appreciate your cooperation in limiting appointments during identified testing times. Score reports will be sent home to families via email on January 29th.
A NOTE FROM THE NURSE (NEW POST!)
Important Information on Common Illnesses in School-Age Children
School-age children are susceptible to various common illnesses.
We encourage you to take a moment to review this Information Letter on Common Illnesses for valuable guidance.
To help prevent these illnesses, please remind your child to practice healthy habits, including:
Washing hands frequently.
Staying well-hydrated.
Avoiding the sharing of personal items, food, or drinks.
Refraining from touching their eyes.
Covering their mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter as we work together to keep our students healthy and safe.
PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES (NEW POST!)
February conferences will take place on Friday, February 14th. These conferences will take place over one day and will be in 10-minute increments.
On Sunday, January 19th our signup genius link will be live and emailed to you at 7:00 pm.
These conferences are always a great way for you to connect with your child(ren)'s teacher, spend some time in the classroom and hear about your child's school life! We appreciate the ongoing partnership and collaboration that is shared in the Patton community. Please note that there is only one conference time slot for each student.
Fourth and Fifth Grade Parents: The conference times are for meeting with your child's homeroom teacher. If your child has a different teacher for math and you have specific math questions, please email him or her directly.
PRE-REGISTRATION 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR : Opens Wed., Jan 15th (NEW POST!)

Our 2nd Graders are going to be the first Panthers to take the stage this school year and we could not be more delighted!
Families will get to enjoy the ageless and timeless wisdom of Aesop and his fables brought to life by our amazing 2nd grade crew. Mr Whitaker has worked his magic to ensure the songs are "on point", the dancing is "on fleek" and the morals of the stories are delivered in an entertaining way!
Doors will open at 6.40pm and the show will start promptly at 7pm.
ABC/25 FOUNDATION: MAGIC OF SCIENCE EVENT - Monday, January 20th (NEW POST!)
We are still in need of 3 families to join the ABC/25 Foundation to help us reach our goal and access the ABC25 Foundation grant! If you have not already joined, please consider doing so HERE.
If you need a little incentive, there is a fun science event taking place on Monday, January 20th at Ivy Hill that is free for ABC/25 Foundation members!

TRAFFIC UPDATES (2nd POST!)
Now that the colder weather has settled in, we know that many of our walkers and bikers will be joining the car line so we just wanted to send a little refresher before winter break!
Please be mindful when you park and do not block any of the surrounding neighbors' driveways.
Please pay attention to the “No Parking” signs that are posted on the streets around Patton.
Please do not block any intersections while waiting to enter the carline.
Please note - there is no parking in front of the school on Patton Ave. Please do not wait there to enter the pickup line at the end of the day - you will be asked to move.
For morning drop off,, please make sure your children are ready to exit the car when you pull up. All hats, coats, gloves and snow bags should be on and at the ready so your child/ren can quickly exit the car.
Thank you for helping our traffic volunteers keep the kiddos safe and for being so respectful this year! We are so grateful!

HOMEWORK CLUB: 4th and 5th Grade - Jan/Feb Sessions (UPDATED POST!)
Please accept our apologies but the link for Homework Club included in last week's Post did not appear to work! It is working now so we are very sorry to anyone that tried to signup but was unable to!
4th and 5th Grade homework club provides a quiet space for students to complete assignments or read in a relaxing setting. Mr. Morkert will be available to answer questions and provide help when needed.
It is important that you note whether you will pick up your child or if they will walk home. Mr. Morkert will bring the kids to the front doors at 4:25pm. Please be there waiting at this time.
Please reach out if you have questions. (tmorkert@sd25.org)
This club will run on Thursdays, 3:35-4:40pm.
If your child is interested, please sign up here and be sure to enter your child's name when signing up!
DONATION REQUEST (FINAL POST!)
Our second grade students are starting a bracelet making club at lunch and are in need of rainbow loom materials. If anyone has any extra materials or kits that they are no longer using our students would be so grateful and will put them to good use.
As the weather changes, the chances of indoor recess increase and we are always on the lookout for new and fun things to keep our students entertained while they are inside.
If you used the winter break to clean out game closets to make space for new items that may have arrived, please consider donating any board games, card games, chess sets, building sets, Legos, magnatiles, dominoes, etc. We will gladly take them and they will be put to good use throughout the winter months!
THANK YOU!
TISSUE BOX CRAFT (Ongoing Post!)
We had more amazingly decorated tissue boxes arrive this week! Seeing them in the library always makes me smile and I am blown away by the creativity and thought that is put into them!
If anyone is in need of a fun craft idea to do over winter break, these are a great way to keep your kids occupied and we will happily display and use them throughout the school.
Decorate the tissue box like any book character you love and make sure it is free standing and that the tissues are accessible.
I can't wait to see what else comes in over the next few weeks!
PORTILLO'S DINE AND SHARE - WEDS., JANUARY 22nd (ONGOING POST!)
Please consider ordering dinner in from Portillo's on Wednesday, January 22nd and help raise funds for our PTA!
ABC/25 FOUNDATION - JOIN TODAY! (2nd POST!)
Help Patton earn a $2,500.00 grant by becoming an ABC/25 Foundation member today!
WE ONLY NEED 3 MORE MEMBERS TO REACH OUR GOAL!!!
Join for $40. Each membership is applied towards all AHSD25 schools your children attend. If you already joined for Thomas Middle School this year, please make sure you were also counted for Patton. Membership must be renewed annually.
Your membership and any additional donations will help fund grants applied for by teachers and administrative staff. Plus, you'll get free or discounted entry into our events with a membership!
And no worries, you won't need to attend any meetings if you don't want to! Although the more the merrier if you are so inclined. We're always looking for new ideas!

COLD WEATHER RECESS (Ongoing Post!)
Please be mindful that students will go out for recess every day as long as the wind chill is above zero and it is not raining. Please ensure your Panthers come to school dressed for the weather. If there is snow on the ground, students will not be able to play on the field or the playground unless they are wearing snow pants and boots. They will need to remain on the blacktop only if they do not have appropriate snow gear. Gloves and hats are important when the weather is cold even if students choose not to bring boots and snow pants.
Students are encouraged to bring in a bag of snow gear each day "just in case" - this also helps minimize any classroom disruptions with items being dropped off after school has started. Please ensure all items are labeled clearly so we can reunite any lost gloves/hats/boots with their owners quickly and easily. Our lost and found is already overflowing again!
It is important to have students bring their snow gear bags home with them over the weekend so clothes can be washed and dried and "refreshed" for the following week! Snow gear does not fully dry when left in the bag.
Thank you so much for working with us on this front, it is hugely appreciated!
REGULATE TO ELEVATE - PHOTO REQUEST (Ongoing POST!)
Keeping with our school theme this year - Regulate to Elevate - we are looking to fill our bulletin board in the Commons with photos of staff and students being their best, regulated selves. If you haven't already, please send a photo in with your child. They can be turned in to the Office or to classroom teachers. (Photos will not be able to be returned.)
