ADMINISTRATIVE ANNOUNCEMENTS
Important: Complete the Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) Application
Dear CMIT Parents and Guardians,
We need your support to ensure our CMIT schools receive the funding necessary to provide the best possible education for your children. Due to changes under the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, our schools face budget challenges, partly because of low submission rates for Free and Reduced-Price Meals (FARM) applications.
Even if you think your family may not qualify, we strongly encourage every parent to complete the application. Each submitted form helps secure essential funding for your school, and unsubmitted forms could mean a loss of $7,800 per student.
Why is this important?
FARM applications determine eligibility for free/reduced meals and additional funding for your child’s school.
Schools lose significant resources if families do not complete these forms, even if they may not qualify.
How easy is it to apply?
It only takes 5-10 minutes to complete the application.
Applications are simple and available in English, Spanish, and French.
You can submit online at www.myschoolapps.com or by following the attached instructions.

Principal Monthly Updates
New School Logo Update and Uniform Information
As shared during the 2023-2024 school year, our school's new logo uniform will be mandatory starting in the 2025-2026 school year. Risse Uniform Company is offering a sale on uniforms featuring the current (old) logo that can only be worn for the remainder of the 2024-2025 school year.
Risse Uniform Company currently has new logo uniforms available in some sizes, all sizes can be ordered as needed.
Effective Immediately:
Any item that is ordered will have the new logo.
Any item with the old logo can no longer be returned or exchanged.
All old logo items are on sale in-store only as a final sale.
All polos - $10.
All oxfords - $10.
Sweater vests - $10.
Sweaters - $15.
Hoodies and fleece - $15.

UPCOMING EVENTS
Tutoring restarts January 6, 2025!
It is that time of year! Tutoring is in full effect. Math tutoring is held Monday and Tuesday and Reading Tutoring is held on Thursday and Friday from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. These programs are by invitation only. Participants received an invitation and had to accept the invitation.
Saturday Academy Revised Schedule
Saturday Academy is cancelled until Saturday January 11, 2025.
Students who were invited and accepted the invitation prior to the deadline should report to the back of the school for drop off at 9:00 a.m. Pick up will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. Please make sure to be on time for drop off and pick up.
*Clubs Have Started*

Clubs will be held IN PERSON after the 2:25 p.m.-2:55 p.m. school dismissal. Club times are from 3:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. on the days specified. Clubs students must be picked up at 4:00 p.m.

Nurse Updates
A Message from Nurse Ann
It is imperative that we are aware of any health issues. Please update the school nurse for any new or important medical information. Our immunization compliance is almost at 100% please continue to forward documentation to the nurse.
Please help yourself and others -- keep your scholars home when they are not well.
Immunizations
Immunizations must be up-to-date and received by the school nurse to prevent exclusion from school.
Medication forms are attached. Please hand carry newly prescribed medication in the pharmacy packaging. Any adult may deliver the medication to the nurse. (appointments must be made)

Hello Families:
Our winter break is upon us; it arrived so quickly this year.

ELA: We will demonstrate phonological awareness, identify and match the common sounds that letters represent. We will also read common high frequency words by sight, sight words: go, from, yellow.
Social Studies: We are learning about community helpers.
Math: We are reviewing addition and subtraction up to 10.
Science: We are continuing to talk about the weather patterns in the sky. We can make predictions from observing patterns.
Friendly reminder: If your scholar has a fever, or is not feeling well; please keep them home until their symptoms are gone without medication for at least 24 hours. We are trying to alleviate the spread of germs within our classrooms.

Spectacular Second Grade News!
Upon our return back from the winter break, we will begin Unit 3 theme "Our Traditions". The spelling pattern will be Long i– igh, y, ie. In Math, we will begin topic 8, which focuses on identifying and counting coins and bills, and solving word problems about money. Over the break, please work with your scholar using examples like, what is the total value of each coin and use coins (real money) to add and subtract. In Science, we will continue with topic 3, Earth's Water and Land. In Social Studies, we will continue topic 3, Government.
When we return to school for the new year, we kindly request your support in reinforcing the importance of following our School Motto with your scholars. I will Respect Myself and Others, I will Opt to Be Scholarly, I will Act Responsibly, and I will React with Kindness. Lastly,
we hope you enjoy spending time with your family and friends. Happy New Year!

Terrific Third Grade News!
In Social Studies, students will continue with Chapter 3: LEsson 4 Early French Communities. Students will learn about early French explorers and settlers in North America.
Have a great winter break everyone! Scholars have been sent home with their extra credit study guide, however they are not expected to complete it during their break unless they really want to. They have had time this week, and part of the week when we're back in school. Then for the rest of the week we're taking our Topic 1-8 Cumulative Benchmark, a review of everything we've learned so far in 3rd grade math!

Fourth Grade Weekly News!
In Reading, we will be finishing up synthesizing information across two texts in an informational text. We will also begin reviewing for our Unit 2 test. A review sheet with topics covered on the test with IXL Links can be found in your scholar's Google Classroom. In Social Studies, students will understand that both individuals and families make economic decisions. In Science, students will describe the properties of waves and how waves cause objects to move. In Math, students will begin equivalent fractions.
We encourage families to check Synergy to stay abreast of your scholar's grades in all academic areas.

RELA
Students will prepare to close out Unit 1 with an assessment in each reading skill and an assessment in writing an informational text.
Science
Students will explain the parts of the water cycle and recognize that the ocean is an important part of the water cycle.
Math
Students will continue to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Students will also multiply fractions.
Social Studies
Student will finish lesson 5 in Chapter 7 and take the final assessment on "Life in the Young Republic".
Creative Arts

Art
Kindergarteners are working on Lines and Shapes. We have reviewed safe scissor use and techniques.
Students will create their own artwork focused on lines and shapes and experiment with collage.
First graders are finishing a project called,
I Love My Hair!
Students will create a portrait with an abstract hair design that depicts a particular mood or feeling, using line, repetition, pattern, and color.
Second graders are creating imaginary creatures in
“Monster Mashup”
Students will present their never-before-seen creature hybrids by combining parts from five animals, to create one in its habitat. We will critique next week.
Third graders are making Patterned Landscapes. Students will create a landscape that contains patterns.
Fourth grade, Names Revealed Through Color:
Students are creating geometric name designs using color, shapes, lines, and text to express an aspect of their personality. They will submit Artist Statements next week along with a critique
Fifth graders are making “Monster Line Drawings” Students create illustrations from random markings to create a 3D image with form and texture. Artist Statements and reviews are due next week.
Music
Hello!!
K & 1st grade are continuing to learn about pitch and how to recognize high and low pitches. 2nd grade is continuing to work on singing and has been introduced to what a music staff is and a beginner way to read the notes on it. 3rd grade is continuing to learn about how to properly read notes on the treble staff. 4th & 5th grade are finishing up performing their music compositions, and have begun to review the music score they will learn to play!

K-2 practiced Computer Fundamentals: Intro to Pointer Devices
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice using a mouse and a trackpad to select objects.
3-5 practiced Hardware Fundamentals: Mobile Devices
In this engaging and interactive digital lesson, the learners receive direct instruction and practice with smartphones, tablets and applications, and understand how mobile devices connect to a wireless network, store information using cloud computing, and use GPS for tracking.
PE
Good week, this week in PE we are doing relay races to work on our fundamentals and teamwork.
LEGO
Hello! This week we are finishing up lessons and getting the classroom organized for the new year. We will continue with new lessons upon returning from winter break. I hope everyone has a wonderful winter break and Happy Holidays!
STEM II
Greetings,
K-1: Completed their balloon characters and will be learning how to code Busy Bee robots to have them transport their balloons along the parade path.
2-3: Demonstrated their understanding of how to make the Sphero Indi’s move in the directions indicated. They will design their balloons next and attach it to the Sphero Indi’s to travel the parade route.
4: Completed their hiking backpack project and had their introduction to Balloons Over Broadway project. They will be designing and creating a parade float out of a shoebox with their group. The next step is deciding on a theme for the float and planning the design for the theme.
5: They have successfully agreed upon a theme for their floats and the items that they want to include on the float and the materials that they will need to create it. Next step is create! I can’t wait to see their floats begin to come to life!
Counselor's Corner!
Hey there, CMIT NES Families! Our K-2 students just wrapped up some awesome lessons on emotions and feelings with the school counselor and now it's time for 3rd through 5th grade to dive in! We're all about recognizing and expressing our BIG emotions in a healthy way. From practicing deep breathing to learning how to talk about what we feel, these sessions will help students navigate anything that comes their way. Get ready to explore how we can calm our minds, take deep breaths, and understand the power of expressing our emotions!
