CHPS Update | Jan. 13, 2022
CHHS and CA Students/Families
Students in grades 6-12 will remain home on Friday, January 14 for Heights from Home online learning.
Due to the current and projected number of positive and symptomatic COVID-19 cases among students and staff in our school district, we are shifting to Heights from Home online learning (at home or at school) for one day on Friday, Jan. 14.
There was a newsletter sent with all this information for the families and students this message pertains to. All elementary classrooms and early childhood programs are monitored on a case-by-case basis.
At this time, all activities and athletics will continue as planned. Spectators must wear masks.
Important Dates | January 2022
January 14: Distance learning for ONLY CA and CHHS students.
January 17: No School. Mini Adventures Open. Adventure Club Closed for Adv Club staff in-service.
January 27: No School (Grading Day). Mini Adventures and Adventure Club are open.
January 28: No School (In-Service Day). Mini Adventures and Adventure Club are open.
Calendar Clarification | Jan. 18
Tuesday, January 18 is a regular school day with students and staff on site.

Possibility to Win a $200 Gift Card | 5-11 year-old Vaccinations
$200 Visa Gift Card: First and second dose received between January 1 - February 28
- Minnesota families who get their child 5-11 years old fully vaccinated in January and February can get a $200 Visa gift card.
- Parents/Guardians can register their 5- to 11-year-old once they have completed their two-dose series.
Registration opens 10:00 a.m. January 24, 2022.
Registration closes 11:59 p.m. February 28, 2022.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Minnesotans must be:
- at least 5 years old at the time of one or both shots
- and 11 or younger at the time of their first shot.
- Minnesotans 5-11 years old must receive both their first and second doses between January 1, 2022 and February 28, 2022.
- Minnesota families are able to receive one $200 Visa gift card per each eligible 5- to-11-year-old fully vaccinated between January 1 — February 28.
The reward registration form will open at 10:00 a.m. on January 24, 2022. The registration form will stop accepting requests for $200 Visa gift cards at 11:59 p.m. on February 28.

Columbia Heights Youth Commission
The City of Columbia Heights is looking for residents ages 14-18 years old to join the Columbia Heights Youth Commission. The purpose of the Columbia Heights Youth Commission is to serve as an advisory body to the Columbia Heights City Council.

-Gain valuable experience in local government
-Spotlight issues important to younger residents
-Help shape Columbia Heights laws and policies
-Learn from experts from a variety of fields

Give Kids a Smile Event | Feb. 4-5
The annual Give Kids a Smile event is occurring Feb 4 & 5 at participating dental clinics.
It provides free dental care for kids 3-18.

Help Out and Substitute at CHPS Through Teachers on Call
Teachers on Call is hiring for the following positions…

The Columbia Heights Public Schools have partnered with Teachers On Call to provide substitutes teacher and educational assistant. Apply Here to complete an online application for employment. Please contact Teachers On Call directly at 1-800-713-4439 with questions and for more information.
To qualify for a Substitute Teacher position, you must have a valid Minnesota teaching license in any content area OR a valid Minnesota short call substitute license. You must hold a minimum of a BA/BS college degree in order to obtain a Minnesota short call sub license.
To qualify for our other substitute positions, you must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent.

Activities Update
CONGRATULATIONS to our Columbia Heights Triple ‘A’ Award Nominees Kaylie Aquino and Drake Pham! This award honors high school seniors throughout the state who have a 3.0 or higher-grade point average and who participate in League-sponsored athletic and fine arts activities.
Home Game COVID Updates:
- We will not have Concessions available
- We will be limiting attendance for all home games in the Hylander Center Gym – this is our 9th grade and C Squad Games. No students allowed. Each player can have 2 guests in attendance.

Additional Activity Bus: A 2nd Activity Bus has been added for students, this bus will leave CA @ 4:30 pm and CHHS @ 4:30 pm on a daily basis.
Activities Punch Card: We are selling Activities Punch Cards at our winter events. A punch card will get you into 10 ticketed events at CHHS (Games, One Act, Musical, etc) for a discounted price. Punch cards cost $20 for students and $40 for adults – saving you $20 over 10 events!
