Learn About the Holland Code/RIASEC
- Realistic (Doers)
- Investigative (Thinkers)
- Artistic (Creators)
- Social (Helpers)
- Enterprising (Persuaders)
- Conventional (Organizers)
The types are organized around a hexagon in order of whether they work more with ideas, people, data, or things. (See image below.)
In this lesson, you will find your Holland Code and then have the opportunity to see jobs that match your Code.

Complete the Career Interest Profiler
When you're done, you should see something like the second image below. This student's Code would be RIC (for Realistic-Investigative-Conventional). Your code will be the first letters of your top three types.
Explore Matching Careers
When you're ready, click on Matching Careers to see jobs that match your Code.
Careers are ordered by the amount of education they require. Click around and see what the Holland Code thinks you might like. This is a great way to learn about jobs you may never have heard of before!
When you click on a job, you can read about what kinds of things a person in that occupation does (do you like these things?), what college majors might be related (do these sound interesting?), and even what people in this job make in different states.
Please use this as an opportunity to favorite jobs that sound interesting by clicking on the heart by a job name. (See below.) This allows you to easily come back to the job later by navigating to Careers I'm Thinking About, but it also helps your counselors get you scholarship and extracurricular information relevant to your interests. Please make sure your favorites are up-to-date!
Getting There
- Some jobs require a certificate or license. These can be required through apprenticeships, technical schools (such as a cosmetology school), or community colleges (such as Metropolitan Community College - Longview).
- Some jobs require an Associate's (two year) degree. These can be completed at community colleges or some four-year colleges (such as Mizzou or University of Central Missouri).
- Some jobs require a Bachelor's (four year), Master's (two year after Bachelor's) or Doctorate (even more years after Bachelor's or Master's) degree. Chances are that you will start with a Bachelor's degree at a four-year college, or Associate's degree at a two-year college and then transfer to a Bachelor's degree at a four-year college.
- Some choose to enlist in the military. The military provides job training in a plethora of fields, or can provide funding for education outside of the military as a benefit of service.
What's Important to You?
- Location - distance from home, relation to industry, setting, etc.

SuperMatch!
- Enter your criteria by clicking on the categories at the top of the tool.
- Once you're done, scroll down to see how schools stack up.
- By the name of each school, you'll see a percentage for how good of a match SuperMatch thinks it is for you. When you click "Why?", you'll see a breakdown of your criteria compared to the school. (See image below.)
- Click on the name of the school to see a full description of the important facts for the institution, including average cost based on income, admission and demographic statistics (including ACT and GPA averages compared to you), areas of study, fees, deadlines, and more.
- Click on the heart by the name of a school to add it to your "Colleges I'm Thinking About" list. Please add at least three to your list!
- Back on the SuperMatch page, click "Pin to Compare" for schools you'd like to compare side-by-side. When you click "Pinned" and then "Compare Pinned Colleges" at the bottom, you'll see a helpful side-by-side comparison.
- Save your search so you don't have to start from scratch next time!
