Art:
Using the media of their choice of media, 7th, 8th and 9th grade artists are creating dessert artworks that demonstrate the use of three-dimensional volume on a two-dimensional plane. 6th grade artists continue to design and construct mini-mosaics using cut straws.
Culinary Essentials:
Students began learning the Rules of Mise en Place, “to put in place” this week. To put this new skill into practice the class has been working together to produce a Classgiving Meal! Put their Culinary skills to work next week in the kitchen over the break.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Foods and Nutrition: Foods & Nutrition: As we begin wrapping up Unit 3: The Food We Eat, students have selected a common food allergen to research and prepare a presentation over. The students have been working all week in class and will have next week(2 days) to complete this project. Please encourage your kiddos to join you in the kitchen over the break to continue practicing their culinary skills.
If you have any questions, please contact me at kcox@usd207.org
Principles of Biomedical Science:
There are a few topics which are NOT in the PLTW Principles of Biomedical Science curriculum but need to be included if this class is to count as a biology credit. Photosynthesis is one of these topics. We have been studying photosynthesis this past week. One of the highlights was looking at a stomata opening on the underneath side of a geranium leaf. This opening allows gas exchange to happen in plants–oxygen leaves the plant and carbon dioxide is absorbed. Next week, we will study cellular respiration.
Students continue with weekly quizzes over the assigned reading material. These quizzes focus on simple concepts from the reading, vocabulary in the section and often contain the exact questions from the reading! To be successful on the quiz, students must do the reading. In addition, students may use their notes on the quiz so it is a good idea to record vocabulary as they read. Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Elder
Spanish 1:
Spanish 1 is currently working through Savvas 3A & 3B. Our next quizzes will be over the vocabulary from these sections on Tuesday, 12/10 (3A) and Friday 12/13 (3B).
We are adding the verb conjugations for "-er" and "-ir" verbs in the present indicative tense. We will be learning a few commonly used rule-breaking verbs.
Students are also doing a Señor Wooly Video of their choosing, completing 5 nuggets (3,000 coins) by the end of the day on Monday, December 9th. (The absolute deadline for this is Tuesday, 10 December.)
It is important for students to stay up to date with their work as we approach the end of the second quarter and first semester. No extensions for work will be given.

They also did a sketch/drawing similar to a graphic novel (just shorter). Next week we will be focusing on a graphic novel about the Holocaust entitled Maus.
Please reach out if you have any questions!

Drama 8/9 – WOW! What a great night! The Drama 8/9 class did an outstanding job with How to Get Away with a Murder Mystery. Thank you to all who attended the show. The show was so enjoyable that the students have been asked to give 2 encore performances the last week of the semester.
As the quarter winds down, we will rest for a day or two before planning for our next two shows – Dr. Seuss and an original production. Stay tuned for more about each of these.

Broadcast:
Students have their choice board activities to work through. They should be using their feedback from past assignments to guide their work. Students also have their own roles to complete for the daily announcements.
Engineering Essentials:
Students have been working to calculate mechanical advantages of simple machines. In the week ahead, we are using pulley systems and calculating gear ratios. This section is very mathematically challenging, but it will set them up for our Unit 2 project that we will complete going into Semester 2.
ESL
We are continuing our study of Christmas around the World to learn how other countries celebrate Christmas. Students will choose six countries from several to research. They will create a book detailing the information they learned. The main reading skill they are using is comparing and contrasting the information from each country they selected.
