DKHS WEEKLY NEWSLETTER
Do A Job
October 4, 2025
One thing I’ve discovered in my first month in this role is you just never know what is
coming on any given day. This was a busy Homecoming Week at DKHS and in addition
to our pep assembly, lunch games, spirit days, Powderpuff game, and parade prep we
also received a shipment of chickens and had a newborn baby goat nursed through her
first day here in the office. They say never a dull moment, right?
I want to thank our students and staff for their active participation this week while
maintaining the academic mission we have in pursuing excellence in the classroom. I
just love the spirit of cooperation we get from our students. They really are great kids of
character. We can all be proud of the way they handle their business and for the most
part are giving their best efforts to be successful.
In addition to Homecoming activities this week, we kicked off our Success Center on
Wednesday. This is an after-school tutoring time for kids to finish work and get needed
support if they are falling behind. SC runs from 3:00-4:30 every Wednesday with Mrs.
McFanin. We also received great news for our theater students. Mrs. Guthrie has
agreed to serve as director/advisor for our fall play which was in danger of being
cancelled. Thank you, Mrs. Guthrie!!
We could use some help from parents to help our kids avoid cell phone violations. Our
policy says that kids can have cell phones out for use before and after school and
during their lunchtime only. Please, if you need to talk to your child during the day call
the office and we can get those emergency messages to them, or we can bring them to
the office to call you back. If you call or text at other times it is proving to be hard for
them not to pull out their phone and that can lead to a policy violation and the loss of
those phone privileges. Thank you for your cooperation in helping us limit those
distractions.
This week’s Hogie’s Hero is Isabella Dye. Isabella found an item of value in the
bathroom and brought it to the office so it could be returned to the owner. Another act of
integrity and positive character displayed by one of our students. Thank you, Isabella,
for doing the right thing. We appreciate you and are proud of you!! Way to DO A JOB!!!

AP Environmental Science Field Trip
What an unforgettable adventure for AP Environmental Science students at Saugatuck Dune Rides and Oval Beach! The thrilling ride through the majestic dunes showcased both primary succession and the beauty of a climax forest. Along the way, we spotted two majestic eagles and playful groups of deer, bringing our studies to life in spectacular fashion!
At Oval Beach, we delved into Michigan's unique lake effect climate, which supports longer growing seasons and makes our state a powerhouse for fruit and vegetable production. Students marveled at a butterfly hatch, searched for intriguing rocks and shells, and enjoyed a delightful beachside lunch. It was a day filled with exploration, discovery, and unforgettable memories in nature's classroom!
