Colonial School District LETRS Summer Course Offering
We are so very excited to be able to bring LETRS training to Colonial! LETRS provides a professional learning course of study based in the science of reading for elementary educators.
We are so very excited to be able to bring LETRS training to Colonial! LETRS provides a professional learning course of study based in the science of reading for elementary educators. The course teaches the how, what, and why of literacy acquisition to improve instructional practice and achieve long-term systemic change in literacy instruction.
LETRS for elementary educators is an investment in teachers' literacy knowledge and professional practice. Teachers gain essential knowledge and skills to master the fundamentals of literacy instruction required to apply and transform student learning.
Before committing to this summer learning opportunity, review the information below!
LETRS K-5 Volume I - DSC # 119156. The course is capped at 20 participants and will be first come first serve via DSC registration. If you are waitlisted you will be contacted. (This course has 4 full day Live Virtual Communities of Practice (VCoPs).
Live Virtual Communities of Practice for LETRS Volume 1 will be held from 8:30-3:30 on the following dates:
● Tuesday, June 11, 2024 ( Virtual Kickoff- 9:00-10:00 a.m.)
● Tuesday, June 25, 2024 (8:30-3:30) Unit 1- The Challenge of Learning to Read
● Tuesday, July 9, 2024 (8:30-3:30) Unit 2 - The Speech Sounds of English
● Tuesday, July 23, 2024 (8:30-3:30) Unit 3 - Teaching Beginning Phonics, Word Recognition, and Spelling
● Tuesday, August 13, 2024 (8:30-3:30) Unit 4- Advanced Decoding, Spelling, and Word Recognition
Between the VCoP meetings, participants are expected to complete asynchronous work, readings, and other assignments in preparation for the live VCoPs scheduled.
Attendance: All VCoPs are held virtually with a LETRS Facilitator. There are no recordings or make-up sessions provided. We understand that situations may arise causing educators to miss a session.
Educators (10-Month Employees) are eligible to receive an hourly stipend of 29.00 for attending the virtual VCoP’s.

Math Updates
Our Colonial Math Department has some exciting news to share – the Elementary Math Curriculum Review Team has selected a curriculum to pilot in the fall, Amplify Demos Math!

Finance and Payroll
Please be sure to have all timesheets entered for the 23-24 school year entered into DSC no later than 4:30pm on 6/14/24. Payroll will be switching DSC to “Summer” at 8am on 6/17/24 and not all school year time types will be available. Additionally, hours for summer employment do not begin until June 11th. Please do NOT submit any summer work timesheets until after 8am on 6/17/24.
