Guest Speaker - From Lia Ferrante's Class
My Forensic Science class had guest speaker, Dr. Graham Williams, speak with class via Zoom all the way from northern England. He is a deaf Forensic Scientist who specializes in the area of DNA and liquid analysis. We had an amazing, inspiring chat with him.
*side note: special thank you to Brent for helping our communication flow since we had a limited amount of time to meet with Graham. Thank you to Richard Flores for trouble shooting our zoom call.
Rosa Matteo's Spanish Class
Students in the Spanish class made a Spanish Potato Omelet. They chopped, beated, fried and tasted....
From The Dorms
We are finally winding down to the last month of school. Please be on the lookout for additional items coming home.
Our students continue to make progress toward their independent living skills objectives. They are actively engaged in several commendable community service projects. In honor of Earth Day, a group of girls took the initiative to clean up the campus, removing trash and debris. Another group demonstrated their compassion by reading books to deaf elementary students, fostering inclusivity, and understanding.
This week, we are pleased to recognize several James Hall students, Kyra H., Meilyn G.G., Sakura V., and Giovanna M. as our students of the week. These girls have consistently displayed positive behavior and exemplified admirable character traits.
The HS boys and girls were invited to a local public high school for their ASL silent night event. The students who went had an awesome time playing games, entering a sidewalk art contest, eating pizza and ice cream, and socializing with hearing students who are learning ASL.
The Rhyne Hall boys and the staff visited a thrift store to gain a deeper understanding of distinguishing between needs and wants, as well as how these concepts relate to budgeting, as part of their educational program. During one of their dormitory activities, the boys demonstrated a keen interest in preparing their own burgers and fries, as well as baking cookies. They also engaged in a fishing excursion, where they caught several fish and subsequently released them back into the coastal waters.
In the near future, the Rhyne Hall boys will embark on one final field trip. In recognition of their accomplishments, the Rhyne Hall boys will be visiting Adventure Landing.
Please remember, your students will be coming home with extra things that are not needed.

EDUCATION TRANSITION PLANNING
Transition to adulthood begins in school, and effective planning is the key to success. To ensure a smooth transition from school to higher education or employment, it’s important to understand the different types of plans designed to assist in transition planning, who is involved in developing them, the different aspects they cover and how to self-advocate for your needs.
