And We Are Off
I can't believe we have already finished the second week of school. Our students and teachers are getting the routines down and I have been excited to see so much learning going on. This year we have added some new staff members to our team and they are already exceeding our expectations.
Tessa Hart is teaching 2nd Grade at Great Lakes this year. Tessa is a graduate of GVSU and her positive energy is contagious. Madison Delgado is our new EL Teacher. Madison is a graduate of Hope College and she is originally from the Holland area. Amber Saur is teaching 4th grade this year. Amber comes to us having done a lot of work at Pine Creek Elementary and her love of both reading and video games already has our students excited. Katie Rietberg is teaching 3rd grade for us this year. Katie is a graduate of both Hope College and West Ottawa Public Schools. While at Hope, Katie was a student-athlete as she played Volleyball at Hope. Finally, Lauren Roberts is our new PBIS Specialst. Lauren is joining Sally Woods to provide social and emotional support to our students so we are sure to meet students where they are at.
It has been fun working with our new staff and getting them integrated to the way that we do things at Great Lakes. We are already off to a great start to the school year and I am so excited to see how this year unfolds.

Important Information
PTO Meeting
Our first PTO Meeting is on September 19th at 5:00 PM in the library at Great Lakes. We would love to have you join us to learn about the opportunities the PTO provides for our students, staff and families.
Reading Assessments: On September 11th and 12th we will be assessing (reading assessment) all of our Kindergarten through 5th grade students. This assessment is vital to helping teachers get to know their students and plan for reading instruction. One of the most important things our teachers teach is reading. Assessing students and their reading level is one of the first ways our staff makes decisions on how best to support your child as a reader. If you have questions about the reading assessments we give throughout the year and how we use the data from the assessments please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher. We are looking forward to continuing to built a culture that puts a high emphasis on literacy.
