OR Community Raises More Than $4K for CA Wildfire Relief
Thank you to all the students, staff, and families who contributed to the Oak Ridge Coin Challenge!
In just nine days, the school came together and raised an incredible $4,020.85
This entire donation will go to the American Red Cross- Los Angeles Region to support those affected by the California Wildfires. The generosity and kindness shown will make a real difference in the lives of those in need.
Each grade showed so much kindness and school spirit as they competed against each other, making this challenge even more exciting! It all came down to a heated battle between 4th and 6th grade, with both grades going back and forth in the lead. But in the end, 4th grade pulled ahead and won the overall challenge!
Thank you to Oak Ridge Science Instructional Coach Christine Skirvan for spearheading this challenge. We are grateful to all for proving that when we come together, we can make a big impact! What a way to wrap up Kindness Week!
Sandwich's Project 351 Ambassador Gets Off to a Great Start
Each year every town in Massachusetts gets to select one 8th grade student to be a Project 351 Ambassador. Project 351 is an independent nonprofit organization that builds a movement of youth-led service by engaging an unsung hero from each of Massachusetts' 351 cities and towns. United for a year of leadership and service, Ambassadors transform communities, elevate kindness, advance social justice, and gain the courage, compassion, and capabilities to lead change. Sandwich Middle High School's Macy Christensen is Sandwich's ambassador this year and was chosen because of her kindness, compassion and ethic of service. Macy attended the launch day in Boston at the JFK Library. As part of the day, Macy went to Brighton High School to do some service work. That work included making meals for the less fortunate, packaging hygiene products, making blankets, and painting some murals. Macy will complete a years worth of leadership training and service work as part of her ambassador year in Project 351.

Pics of the Week: Oak Ridge Kindness Tunnel
Many thanks to the SPS staff and administration, members of Sandwich Public Safety, State Representative Steven Xiarhos, and local armed service members who participated in Friday's Community Kindness Tunnel! As Oak Ridge students arrived at their school, a path lined with smiling faces, waving hands, and uplifting words of encouragement greeted them. The presence and enthusiasm was a tangible reminder to continue spreading kindness throughout our community. The tunnel was also a key activity of the Great Kindness Challenge, a week of activities and reflection that engage students, teachers, administrators, families, and communities in creating a culture of compassion, acceptance, unity, and respect. Oak Ridge's 7 C's teacher Kristin MacDonald spearheaded all Kindness Week activities.
🩺 From the Nurse's Office
We are seeing cases of influenza among our staff and students here at Sandwich Public Schools and wanted to provide you with some basic information.
Students with elevated temperatures (100℉ or higher) should remain home until their fever resolves for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of antipyretic medications, This includes Tylenol, Motrin, Multi Symptoms cold medicines, and several others. If you are unsure about your student returning to school, please reach out to your PCP or the school nurse.
Students suffering from diarrhea or who are vomiting should remain home until they are free from episodes of vomiting or diarrhea for 24 hours.
Following these guidelines helps us to mitigate the spread of illness within the school community.
If your child is diagnosed with influenza below are some common recommendations:
Stay home and rest.
Drink fluids.
Consult with your child’s PCP about medication for fever such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
Clean your hands often.
Cover your coughs and sneezes.
Encourage children and family members to avoid sharing utensils, drinks, snacks, etc, to mitigate spread within the home.
