Happy Holidays and Happy New Year
On behalf of the Linden Community Schools, we want to thank everyone for a great 2022 and wish everyone a fantastic 2023.
Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment Announced
LInden Community Schools is pleased to announce that Cheryl Thomas has been named Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
Brett Young, former Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment as accepted the position of Superintendent at Genesee Community Schools, starting Dec. 1, 2022.
Cheryl Thomas was originally hired as the Curriculum Director and held this position for three years, prior to becoming Principal at Central Elementary. During her tenure at Linden, Cheryl has been the Principal at Central Elementary, Hyatt Elementary, and now Linden Middle School. During our discussions, it was clear that Cheryl was the best candidate for the CIA position, and the best person for the district to be in that position.
For the remainder of the 2022-23 school year, Cheryl Thomas will hold the position of Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment with LMS Principal responsibilities. Beginning with the 2023-24 school year, Cheryl will be the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.
This is a very exciting time for LCS, and we are extremely excited to have Cheryl on board and looking forward to the positive impact she will have on our district, our students, and our staff.
School Resource Officer added to Hyatt and Linden Elementary
Beginning on January 3, 2023, the Linden Community Schools and the Linden Police Department have joined forces to place a School Resource Officer in Hyatt Elementary and Linden Elementary Schools. This Officer will split time between both schools during the school year.
The School Resource Officer (SRO) will collaborate with school administrators, faculty, students, and parents to ensure the schools are a safe place for students to learn. The SRO will be a part of the school community which they serve. It is our goal that the SRO becomes a dependable, appreciated member of the staff whom students, parents, and school staff can come to for advice, support, and safety. The Linden Police Department and Linden Community Schools want the SRO to be seen by our students as a positive role model who is there to help with day-to-day support and education during regular school hours, after school, and at off-campus school activities. The SRO will also act as a deterrent against crime and acts of violence. The SRO’s main responsibility is educating and protecting students and staff from threats of violence.
With help from the Linden Community Schools, the Linden Police Department conducted backgrounds and interviews for the position of School Resource Officer. It was determined based on the background and interviews that the Linden Police Department would hire Officer Jeremy Williams for the School Resource Officers position. Officer Williams comes to us from the Capital Region Airport Authority Police Department. Officer Williams has 19 years of law enforcement experience. Officer Williams believes it is a true honor to be chosen to be the School Resource Officer at Hyatt Elementary and Linden Elementary and he looks forward to building relationships with the students, parents, and school staff.
