Optimist Club of West Bloomfield "Be Like Bob" Scholarship
These WBHS students have been awarded an Optimist Club of West Bloomfield "Be Like Bob" scholarship:
- Stephen Mihos, 1st place $2,500
- Alya Kayat, 2nd place $1,500
- Logan Close, 3rd place $1,000
The scholarship was established in memory of Robert "Bob" Mellen who was an active member of the West Bloomfield Optimist Club and a strong supporter of public education. His spouse Margie Mellen was a long-time, outstanding educator in WBSD and his daughters Cheryl Caplan (3rd grade teacher at Scotch) and Melissa Michaelson were present at the ceremony honoring these three students that carry on his kindness and optimism. Special thanks to College and Career Counselor Noelle Essig, Joey Spano, Dr. Kyana Smith and Fire Chief Flynn for their help.
Congratulations to WBHS Senior, Logan Close
The Robert A. Schuele Scholarship Fund was established to honor the life of a friend, a family man, and a business professional. The intention of the Robert A. Schuele Scholarship Fund is to grant a scholarship award in an amount that will secure the attendance of a student at a major college or university in Michigan. Each year, the Scholarship’s Board of Trustees select an applicant with outstanding character, a demonstrated commitment to academic studies, and a financial need for assistance. In addition to a four-year, full-ride tuition, scholarship recipients also receive mentoring and networking resources provided by the Trustees in order to maximize the recipient’s educational experience.
Congratulations, Logan, and best of luck at Michigan State University!
