MASSABESIC HIGH SCHOOL
2023-2024
MHS STUDENT & FAMILY NEWSLETTER
Week of November 4 - November 8, 2024
RSU 57 & Massabesic High School
"Preparing students for success in an ever-changing world."
Hello Mustang Nation,
Dark Mornings & Bus Stops:
Although we have turned the clocks back and we should be experiencing a bit more light each morning, we ask that students who are waiting at bus stops exercise extra caution while waiting. Please stay on the side of the road and utilize the lights on your cell phones to indicate that you are in fact present and waiting to be picked up. The lights on your phones will help drivers better identify where you are at the stop. Thank you for doing everything you can to keep yourself and everyone around you safe!
RSU 57 schools will be closed on Tuesday, November 5 as some district buildings will be utilized for the election. As a reminder, our upcoming week will follow the Green/White color rotation schedule below.
Monday 11/4 - WHITE
Tuesday 11/5 - NO SCHOOL
Wednesday 11/6 - GREEN
Thursday 11/7 - WHITE
Friday 11/8 - GREEN
Take care,
-Mr. Thurlow
Forensic Science Class - On Fire!
Students enrolled in Ms. Doiron's Forensic Science class recently completed an Arson Lab. They spent the class blocks leading up to lab day building their structures. On lab day, students burned their structures down in order to observe the burn patterns and investigate the scenes left behind.
Congratulations to Students selected to the SMAA All-Academic Team!
MHS Leaders with SRTC & SkillsUSA
Congratulations to SRTC students Gianna Sibya and Brian Graffam who were recently elected to leadership positions in SkillsUSA. Additionally, Isabel Enos will be serving as a local officer representing SRTC.
From Brian Graffam:
"SkillsUSA is a program that SRTC offers which allows you to push your mind beyond limits. SkillsUSA is anything from competitions in the spring, to giving yourself the leadership role you didn't know you could fill. Gianna Sibya has stepped up and taken the President position for the local Sanford chapter for the year of 2024-2025. This means she will be handling the bones of our meetings and doing everything from paperwork to helping organize the competitions. Izzie Enos has taken a step up this year as well and ran for the Secretary position of the local chapter. Brian Graffam has taken on the task of running for State Officer where in the spring he will run against many other students from all around the state to compete for an officer position. Brian might be selected by the board as anything from President to Post-Secondary Vice President. There are more than a few roles and the SkillsUSA board will select him for what they see fit. The competitions previously mentioned involve a plethora of fun competitions involving your SRTC program against other students from different vocational schools all around the state. The competitions include everything from Electrical wiring to Crime Scene Investigation. The SkillsUSA main goal is to help students expand their horizons and step outside of the box. SkillsUSA is highly recommended to any student enrolled in a vocational school and will surely be worth your time. For any additional questions, feel free to reach out to your Massabesic officers."
SkillsUSA is the #1 workforce development organization for students - they empower students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members. We are incredibly proud of our student leaders and the wonderful representation they provide.
