Principal's Note
Hello SGCS families,
Happy Sea Week! I have amazing memories from my elementary school Sea Week days at Harborview, I love that this tradition is still alive and well! All of our K-5th grade classes are going to the beach this week, let's hope they don't get TOO soaked!
We are closing in on the end of the school year. We have some events coming up:
Wednesday, May 15: Cultural Literacy Festival, see flyer below
Thursday, May 16: Site Council at 5:00; 5th Grade parent night at 6:00
Friday, May 17: Staff vs. Students Basketball Game
Tuesday, May 21: Field Day!
Here's to a great rest of the school year!
In partnership,

Teacher Appreciation Week
This week has been amazing so far - we feel the love and appreciation from our families. Thank you, Kristen Peterson, for organizing Teacher Appreciation Week!
Square One Art Fundraiser
Tomorrow is the order deadline for Square One Art!!
Your student(s) created a piece of artwork that you can order on keepsakes and the school will receive a portion of the funds raised. Custom catalogs are being sent home with your student this week. You can search for your student's art using Art Search. Enter Alaska, Sayeik Gastineau Community School, and your student's name. Your student's art and code will appear, and then you can order.
Thank you for supporting our school!
School Day Schedule Changes
The consolidation of schools will result in more students traveling farther to and from schools each day. A slight change is needed to provide additional time between the elementary and middle school start times. The district needs to add 15 minutes between elementary and middle school schedules to ensure middle school students arrive to school on time.
On Tuesday, April 16, the Juneau School District Board of Education had an initial discussion about Option One changes to the school day schedule. The Board will take this item up again at its May 14 regular meeting.
Based on feedback from families, a second option has now been added, which would maintain the current 8:00 a.m. elementary start time and shift the middle and high school schedule 15 minutes later.
