Learning At Franklin: January 2025
Kindergarten
Our kindergarten students have been working hard on learning sight words and "red words"! Through fun and engaging activities, they are building their early reading skills and confidence with word recognition. Keep up the great work, kindergarten!
Our kindergarten students had a blast learning about Chinese New Year by creating their own colorful dragon puppets! This hands-on activity helped them explore the traditions of the holiday while sparking creativity and fun. Happy Lunar New Year!
1st Grade
As part of our Light and Shadow Project-Based Learning (PBL) unit, students applied their science knowledge to create giant coloring pages! These creative masterpieces will be used during indoor recess, combining art, science, and fun in a truly engaging way.
2nd Grade
Students conducted an experiment to see how water changes rocks, helping them make important connections to how landscapes evolve over time. It was a hands-on way to bring science to life and explore the power of nature!
3rd Grade
Students engaged in meaningful activities to kick off the new year! They participated in an online discussion board centered around an essential question tied to their reading, sparking thoughtful conversations and deeper learning.
To celebrate personal growth and goal-setting, students also created one-word resolution bracelets, each representing their focus for the year ahead. It was a creative and inspiring way to reflect and start 2025 on a positive note!
4th Grade
Our 4th graders had an exciting day watching the live broadcast of the Youth Media Awards, where prestigious honors like the Newbery and Caldecott Awards were announced. To make the day even more special, they got to enjoy the event in their cozy pajamas for PJ Day! It was a fun and memorable way to celebrate reading and outstanding children's literature!
Our 4th graders explored how rivers flow and shape the land around them. Through interactive activities and discussions, they learned about the movement of water and its impact on the environment.
The Counselor’s Corner
Hello Franklin Families!
I hope you are all doing well as we get through these cold winter months! Next week is one of my favorite weeks of the school year: National School Counseling Week! I love using this week as a reminder that I am here for ALL of our students, staff, and families. Students will celebrate with a variety of activities in the coming days. This years’ theme is Helping Students THRIVE.
Girls on the Run…Is so much fun! We are gearing up for our Spring 2025 season! Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development to enable team members to adapt to whatever comes their way. At the end of the season, the team completes a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
Here are some important upcoming dates:
Spring season registration opens: Tuesday, February 4th!
