OWENS COUNSELING CORNER
ALIEF ISD
November 2021
Hello Jaguars,
November is the very best month of autumn. It's a holiday month because you get to spend time with family and friends to celebrate and take a moment to reflect on all that makes you grateful. There is no question that gratitude is good for you. People who feel gratitude are less likely to be depressed and worried, and more likely to feel satisfied with their lives. We are so thankful that you have entrusted us to care for you which in turn allows us the opportunity to do what we are most passionate about- teaching you how to be successful in school and in life.

COUNSELING SUPPORT FOR STUDENTS
Who can help me?
When establishing and maintaining relationships with others, using friendship skills and showing gratitude can help you have strong connections.
An important connection to your personal, social, academic and career success is knowing the people who support you, or where you can go for help.
IDENTIFY PEOPLE WHO CAN HELP YOU
It is a strength to be able to reach out for help when you need it.
Click on the link below to access a Support Map. You can download the document or write your answers on a piece of paper.
Fill in your support map for each area with people you know that can help you in some way.
Example: At school, your teachers, counselors, principals, coaches, and office staff are some of the people that can help you.

New Ways November
This month, we're encouraging you to try something new!
Learning something new or getting involved in an activity that really absorbs and interests us is great for our wellbeing. Keeping our brains active is not only good for us physically but it can help you feel you are flourishing as you see yourself make progress with a new skill, or just make you smile as you make a mess and decide to start again. :) Being playful and trying new things is important, as is remembering that it's OK not to get it right first time - change "I can't do it", into "I can't do it...yet!" This month's calendar is full of ideas to help you decide what to try next.
