Highlights From May 2024
Maude Lewis
This is a collaborative art project that all of Ms. Rippey's Art classes worked on! They studied Maud Lewis and used local imagery. They cut out their image on foam board and painted it. Then, they arranged the collage with pieces from each of the classes and glued them on.
Track & Field Team
VanZoost, Jayden Gregory, Patrick Comeau, Gwendolyn Butler, Charlotte McLean, Madison Duncan, Joe Isenor, Alex Pitcher, and Daphne Burgess. Thank you Natalie Kendrick, Chris Kendrick, and Ms. Kelly for coaching the team this year.
Girls Softball Team
The girls' softball team played great at Districts, finishing with a 1-1 record and earning them a spot in a challenge game in Lunenburg/Queens County. Highlight of the tournament was a grand slam by MacKenzie Hatt! Good luck to the team.
Boys Softball Team
The boys' softball team had a great day at their District Tournament in St. Croix. Way to go! Thank you to Mr. Dill and Devon Adams for coaching the team this year.
Black Excellence Day
Staff and students celebrated Black Excellence day on May 15th 2024. The day brings attention to the brilliance, achievements, and talents of students of African descent. Celebrating Black Excellence in schools provides an opportunity for every student, teacher, and administrator to acknowledge and recognize the past and present achievements, stories, art, and innovations of people of African descent. All staff and students were invited, to wear black shirts to celebrate and stand in unity in support of Black Excellence Day.
Visit From Children's Author Vicki Grant
Vicki loves being a writer, but that doesn’t mean she always loves writing. Illustrated with humorous slides and personal examples, her Inspiration Presentations focus on the tricks she’s learned to keep herself creative, energized, and productive. She engages the students with hilarious read-alouds, lively Q&A sessions, and easy writing exercises geared to their interests and age groups.
Wilderness Survival Skills
6LeBlanc and 6Kidd had the opportunity to visit Akin's Marsh in Falmouth and learn some Wilderness Survival Skills that are directly linked to their novel study, "Hatchet." We had a great day hiking and learning about the wildlife of Nova Scotia, as well as how to read a compass and stay safe in the outdoors. Thanks to the Hants West Wildlife Association for hosting us!
Red Dress Day
West Hants Middle School recognized Red Dress Day, bringing more awareness to the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, boys and Two-Spirit people across Turtle Island.
Music Monday at Acadia University
On Monday, May 6th, our Grade 7 and 8 band students travelled to Wolfville to participate in a Music Monday event sponsored by the Acadia School of Music. Our students got to work in a full band setting with nearly 300 students and then break out into instrument sectionals led by university professors and music education students to further develop their playing skills. Although it was a rainy day on the university campus, we had a blast, learned some new techniques and got to sight-read some challenging music. Thank you to our parent volunteers for supporting and joining us for the day!

Here is an example displaying all the fields required for us to produce a bus note.
Please remember that we do not accept bus notes by email or phone call unless there is an emergency.
Bus Driver Discretion
There are days when schools are open when drivers will use their discretion. This means that while road conditions are generally acceptable, some side roads may be unplowed or slippery, so bus drivers may not travel these roads if they think they aren't safe.
Remember that when a bus does not travel a road in the morning, it will also not travel that road in the afternoon.
