Welcome Back to School Edition Aug. 8, 2024
Welcome Back!
A Note From Principal Roy
Greetings Fleming Families!
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer so far and are starting to get excited about the 2024-2025 school year! We are so excited to welcome everyone back to school in just a couple of weeks. This summer, many people have been keeping busy making sure the building, classrooms, materials, and new experiences are ready and prepared for our students on the first day of school (Mon, Aug. 26). Custodians have been working hard to deep clean, make repairs, and help people move into new spaces. Teachers have been taking classes and meeting with each other to make sure they are ready for the school year. Our instructional coach has been reviewing new curriculum resources and supporting teachers with summer curriculum work, and our office manager has been making sure all students are registered and that materials are purchased for the first day of school. Next week, a group of us will be attending a conference hosted by EWSD focused on SEL and behavior interventions. Our goal is to come away with some structures for better supporting students with developing their academic and social behaviors.
It has been a busy summer, but we are so excited to see everyone on the first day of school! Teachers will formally begin the 2024-2025 school year on Tuesday 8/20 for in-service, and we will welcome all students on Monday August 26th for the first day of school! Please carefully read through all of the information below which contains important dates and reminders for the school year ahead.
Have a great rest of the summer!
- Matt

An Important Update From Essex CHIPS - Tween Center
For the 2024-2025 school year, Essex CHIPS’ Teen and Tween Center will be held in the Kolvoord Community Room at the Brownell Library located at 6 Lincoln Street in Essex Junction. This is due to the ongoing renovation in our previous location, which we hope to return to in the fall of 2025. Applications for the TWEEN center are due Sunday August 11th.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the Teen and Tween Center will not be a drop-in program. Participants will be chosen through a lottery process, prioritizing students who will be able to attend each week. Students chosen to participate will be contacted through email by August 19th to inform them of their acceptance into the program. Students who are not admitted to the program will be placed on a waiting list in case admitted participants withdraw their application or a student’s schedule changes. Admitted youth whose availability changes (making them unable to attend on a regular basis due to schedule conflicts) will be unenrolled from the program and if they wish, will be placed on the waiting list. It is the responsibility of the caretaker to communicate to staff via phone call or email if their child will be absent from Teen and Tween Center. Three unexcused absences will result in removal from the program. Preapproved absences and illnesses that are communicated to staff in advance of Teen and Tween Center will not count against the youth toward removal.
