Staff Spotlight
Christian Brunnquell is a third grade teacher at Mote. He has also taught 5th grade and special education here at Mote. Prior to coming to Mote, Mr. Brunnquell -Attended Strath Haven High School (1994-1998) - Wallingford/Swarthmore School District, -Attended Lafayette College (1998-2002)- Easton, PA, -2009-2011- worked at Baltz Elementary (Red Clay) as a behavior interventionist. In June 2012 Mr. B. graduated from Wilmington University with a Masters in Elementary Education- K-6. He was then hired at Mote the week before school started, 2012. Mr. Brunnquell finds the most rewarding aspect of being an educator is allowing students to realize their own power! Outside of school, Mr. Brunnquell enjoys Weight Training, cardio, sauna, massage, playing the guitar, following my daughter's marching band around to football games and competitions, hiking, helping anyone who needs help. Some fun facts about Mr. Brunnquell are, he played Lacrosse and Football in high school. The wrestling coach always wanted him to wrestle...he said "No thank you." He continued College Football for two years at Lafayette as a Center. ( It was difficult). He was also in all honors classes in high school and graduated Strath Haven with a 3.9 GPA.
Angela Johnson is one of our school counselors, primarily working with students in Kindergarten through second grade. Prior to her six years here at Mote, Ms. Johnson was a high school counselor at Cab Calloway School of the Arts and spent five years as an adult probation and parole officer. She finds watching students grow academically, socially, and emotionally the most rewarding part of being an educator. The joy you see when they are proud of themselves for accomplishing something they have been working towards is priceless. Outside of school, Ms. Johnson's hobbies include spending time with family, reading, journaling, exercising, and building Legos (particularly the floral collection). A fun fact about Ms. Johnson is she loves being on or near the water. The ocean is her happy place!
Great Things Happening At Mote
Trunk or Treat
Students using communication and other important skills in authentic situations.
Schoolwide Field Trip to Ramsey Farms
All of Mote will be going to Ramsey Farms on Monday October 28, 2024. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We will be outside. They need to wear sneakers. Please make sure your child has a water bottle as Ramsey Farms does not have water available.
Those students who have not returned a permission slip will remain at school with staff members who will have activities for them to work on.
Picture Day
Picture Day will be on Tuesday October 29, 2024. Fliers were sent home with your child. Please do not send any money into school before Picture Day. Your child gives the money directly to the photographer. All students will get their picture taken even if they do not have money. This picture is used for our yearbook. There will be a make up day if your child is absent or you are unhappy with how the pictures came out.
Recurring Information
PTA membership
The PTA is working hard this year to create great opportunities for the staff and students at Mote. Please consider becoming a member of the PTA.
Prepared for Related Arts
Mote uses a 4 day rotation for Related Arts. Please check in with your child's teacher to see what your child has on A-D days. The letter for the day is listed in this newsletter under Upcoming Events.
Please make sure your child has their library book on library days and sneakers on gym days.
Please send your child with a reusable water bottle each day. We do prefer clear liquid (water) in the event of a spill. These water bottles are especially important on days the students have gym. There are no working water fountains in the gym.
Thank you for helping your child be prepared (and RESPONSIBLE).
Volunteering at Mote
If you are interested in volunteering at Mote or attending field trips, please use the links below to complete the necessary paperwork. Then call the front office to let them know the paperwork has been completed and accepted.
Early Dismissals
If your child requires an early dismissal, please send in a note in the morning indicating the time. We close down the office for dismissals between 3:15-4:00.
You must have an id to sign out your child from the office.
We will not call students to the office until you arrive for the early dismissal. This maximizes their instructional time before they leave.
Process for Concerns
It is inevitable that throughout the year, your child will come home upset about something. We ask that you use the following process to deal with the situation.
1. Understand that there are two sides to every story. Your child is sharing the story from his/her perspective.
2. Ask your child for more information. Empower them to handle this situation on their own (if they are able).
3. Speak directly with the teacher for clarification and to problem solve. Share your concerns without blame. It will allow you and the teacher to talk through the situation and reach an agreed upon solution.
4. If the situation is not resolved after speaking with the teacher, please reach out to administration for support.
Birthday Celebrations
We do not allow for families to send in items for a birthday celebration. Each teacher has a method to celebrate student birthdays in the classroom. The exception is if you choose to send in a small non food item that your child can pass out to each person at the end of the day. Please do not send birthday invitations in to school with your child for him/her to pass out unless there is one for every student in the class. For more information, please see the flier below.
