Dear Penn Wood community,

As we welcome the spring weather and longer days, it is the perfect time to consider new opportunities to get involved with our Home & School Association (HSA)!

We are kicking off the official volunteer request for the 2025-2026 school year early by providing you with a SignUpGenius link for various committee and chair positions. Whether you are interested in serving as a committee chair, supporting the committee, or you have ideas for new events or activities - we appreciate ALL of the support, commitment and involvement. You are always welcome to learn more about our calendar of events by attending our monthly Home & School meeting. The next meeting is on Thursday, April 10 at 6 p.m. Before the meeting starts, Dr. Garvin and his Penn Wood team will have pizza and drinks available as a token of appreciation for YOU - the volunteers. Please RSVP HERE by April 7 to join in for this easy dinner option and stay to see our team in action. We have some returning board members and committee chairs, but there is always room for more, so if you are interested in a position or want to learn more about the roles and responsibilities, please reach out to me directly.

Finally, we couldn't be more excited for the upcoming spring activities such as Breakfast with a Buddy, Bag Bingo, Science Day, and more! Please continue to upload pictures for the yearbook by logging into www.PennWoodHSA.com, navigating to "How You Can Help," and then clicking "Yearbook Photo Submission." We will accept photos until Monday, March 31, which is the same day that the EARLY BIRD pricing of $15 per yearbook ends.

The Yearbook Committee will develop the yearbook in waves and we need your help! We are looking for photos from ALL events this school year!

You can help by following these steps:

1. Access the Yearbook Photo Submission page HERE (you will need to log in to Membership Toolkit) or by navigating to the How You Can Help tab on PennWoodHSA.com and selecting Yearbook Photo Submission.
2. Upload your photos per event/activity on/before March 31.

We recommend one yearbook per child. Yearbooks are distributed at the end of the school year where classmates often enjoy writing in each others' books. We encourage you to purchase yearbooks at this time because we need an accurate count before the final book goes for printing. A small amount of books may be accessible for purchase after the April 25 deadline for $20.00, but we cannot guarantee availability so ORDER NOW.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! What better way to start the day other than breakfast with one of your favorite people? Join us for our annual Breakfast with a Buddy event April 9-11.We hope that you’ll join your favorite Penn Wood student(s) on one of these mornings to make their day extra special.

It's exciting that our kids will get to take part in the Track & Field Day with other schools across WCASD on Wednesday, May 14 (rain date is May 16). Home & School will gift one cotton t-shirt to each student to show our PW pride!

Use this FORM to select the shirt size for your child. Shirts will be delivered to school and handed out the day of the event.

** 4th grade - Home & School provides one shirt to use for both years, so please submit this form to order. You may want to "size up" so it still fits next year. If you need a replacement shirt in the future, it usually costs around $5.

** 5th grade - Your child should re-use their t-shirt from last year and wear it to school on the day of the track meet. If you’d like to purchase a replacement for $5, submit this form and we will contact you to make payment. If your child is new to PW this year, submit this form for a shirt at no cost.

** Staff - If you are attending the track meet and do not have a shirt, please submit this form.

Responses are due by Friday, April 4.

Now that Spring has sprung, please consider volunteering for outdoor lunch duty so that the students can go outside at lunch for some extra fresh air and sunshine. Students will be rotated and can eat outside whenever we have nice weather days as long as there are volunteers to assist. If you have your clearances and you are interested, you can sign up HERE.

If there is inclement (or chilly) weather and lunch will not be held outside, you will be notified by Kelly Nolan. You can also reach out to her with any questions at kellypurvis@gmail.com or via phone or text at 215-620-6135. You will receive an email from Kelly Nolan with instructions once you sign up for Outdoor Lunch.

Penn Wood's next Dine & Donate is at Duffer's Tavern on Thursday, April 24 from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Duffer's is owned by a former Penn Wood family. Mention or type "Penn Wood" when you place your dine in or takeout order and Duffer's will donate a percentage of food sales back to our school. If the sun is shining, consider dressing in layers to sit outdoors on their patio. Thank you for your support!

Penn Wood Home & School is partnering with the Philadelphia Union for a family night out this season! Our families can purchase tickets for the match on Saturday, April 26 at 4:30 p.m. vs. DC United! This is Union’s annual Kids' Day!

We will be allowing families to sit in the best sections that they feel the most comfortable with. Please work with your family and friends to choose the best section for you!

This will be a very popular game and could sell out quickly. We advise everyone to purchase today!

5th Grade End-of-Year Parent Checklist

As we approach the end of the school year, there are several important events and deadlines for our 5th graders. Please review the information below to ensure your child doesn't miss out on anything!

5th Grade Yard Signs

If you would like to purchase a Yard Sign to celebrate your 5th Grader moving up to Middle School, please fill this FORM.

• Cost: $15.00 per sign
• Deadline: Friday, March 28
• Payment Options:
• Venmo: @PWHomeandSchool
• Cash: Send in an envelope labeled with the following:
• Attn: 5th Grade Yard Sign
• Student Name and HR Teacher
• Estimated arrival: End of April/Beginning of May. We will email you with pick up instructions when the signs arrive.

Yearbook Shout Outs:

• Shout outs for the yearbook are due Monday, March 31.
• Fill out this FORM to submit a shout out.

5th Grade T-Shirts:

• 5th grade t-shirts have been distributed. Please wear your shirt to school on Wednesday, April 2 for the 5th Grade class photo!

5th Grade Party:

• More details and volunteer opportunities will be shared as the event approaches.

5th Grade Trip:

• On Thursday, May 8, the students will be visiting Citizens Bank Park for a Phillies stadium tour, enjoying lunch at the stadium, and exploring the National Constitution Center.
