- For the month of April, Stark County JHHS will be celebrating a Month of Peace. This month we will be learning about how to support, include, and celebrate underrepresented groups. This month we will be asking you to participate in social-emotional lessons, create a door decoration, and take time out of your day to learn about how to be kind to others and increase your social responsibility.
- April 8: On April 8, 1996, University of Virginia student Maria Pulzetti created the Day of Silence to find a way to raise awareness by doing something that was visible and available for all students to participate in, to raise the visibility of the LGBTQ+ community.
- April 9: One out of every five (20.2%) students report being bullied. The reasons for being bullied reported most often by students include physical appearance, race/ethnicity, gender, disability, religion, and sexual orientation.
- April 10: Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2015 which is an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to attack its own healthy tissue. Selena has faced body shaming and bullying about her appearance due to the side effects of the medication she takes to treat her lupus. To the haters she says, “I would much rather be healthy and take care of myself. My medications are important and I believe they’re what helps me.”
April 11: Nearly half of students feel they don’t belong, and only 51% of
respondents feel a sense of belonging at their schools. If you were giving
advice on how to make someone feel welcome, what would you say?
April 12: Did you know that 28.8 million Americans will experience an
eating disorder at some point in their lives? This can affect anyone,
regardless of age, sex, gender identity, or body type. Think about what you
can do to increase body positivity for yourself and others.
