Parent Survey
Liberty Public Schools is participating in the DESE Missouri School Climate and Culture Parent Survey. Results from this survey will be used as part of the school improvement review during the 2024-2025 academic year. As part of this process, parents are asked to voluntarily answer surveys regarding programs and services available to students. Please take a few minutes to answer the survey using the link provided below that corresponds to your student(s) building(s). Responses from parents will be anonymously summarized and will become part of a report for the school district. The school district will use this report in the development of school improvement efforts.
In order to complete the survey you will need to use the link below and then select the school on the webpage for each individual child in your household that attends Liberty Public Schools. The MSIP 6 Parent Survey closes on December 13th.
You have the option not to respond to any item or not to complete a survey at all. For additional information regarding the Missouri School Climate and Culture Parent Survey click HERE for the LPS MSIP 6 Parent Survey website.
Thank you for your continued support of Liberty Public Schools.

Meet our Staff
Mrs. Catherine Franssens-7th Grade ELA/ Advanced ELA
Mrs. Franssens is from Liberty. She has a degree in Architecture/Design from K-State and an Education/SPED degree from Graceland. She started her career in public education 9 years ago and this is her 7th year at LMS. She states , "After completing my formal education, I reflected on my why, my teachers, and those who connected with me. While in the middle of my architectural and design career, I questioned my personal why. Turns out my why is rooted in teaching, coaching, and building relationships with young people. I enjoy working with students because each one is a unique human with skills and backgrounds that deserve to be developed and shared with others. Each day I have the privilege of working with students is a gift. On rare occasions, I see the difference I've made. I also love that no two days are duplicated. Surprise reactions in learning and comments of gratitude remind me of my teachers and their intentional connections with me." Mrs. Franssens is one of three redheaded sisters and she has two redheaded children of her own. In her spare time she enjoys coaching volleyball and basketball. She also enjoys traveling, reading, and hiking.
Mrs. Cyndy Detlefson- 8th Grade Pre-Algebra
Mrs. Detlefson is from Kansas City, KS. She has been in teaching for 28 years and this is her 13th year at LMS. She has her undergrad degree from Kansas State University. She also has Masters in Education from Baker University and a Master in Education Leadership from Baker. She states , "I love inspiring middle school students to see the beauty of math and how patterns make up this world. I enjoy witnessing students make connections and encourage them to never to give up when things get difficult." Mrs. Detlefson enjoys being with friends, water sports, snow skiing and ATV riding in her spare time.

November's Digital Citizenship Information
Keeping Your Student Safe Online: Managing Digital Footprints
In today’s digital world, every online action contributes to a student’s "digital footprint." This footprint can shape their online reputation and affect future opportunities. Parents/Guardians play a key role in helping students understand how to protect and manage this footprint.
Here are a few ways to keep students safe online:
- Encourage Privacy: Teach children to think before they share. Help them set privacy settings on social platforms, and remind them to only share personal details with trusted friends.
- Be Mindful of Comments and Photos: Even seemingly harmless comments or pictures can be misinterpreted or spread widely. Encourage students to keep their content respectful and positive.
- Search Together: Occasionally, look up your child’s name online together. This can be a great learning moment to see what information is available and discuss ways to improve privacy.

Parent Up’s Meaningful Meals Kit: Making Meals More Meaningful!
You’ve heard it before but it’s worth saying again: Family meals really matter. Study after study has made it clear that having regular unplugged meals together as a family is linked to behaviors all parents want in their kids:
lower rates of substance use and depression,
better peer relationships,
and even better grades!
With so much going on around us, mealtime may be the only time for families to connect, debrief, relax and recharge. Having meals together leads to better connection between parents and kids, allows parents to catch concerns and kids to express needs, and creates bonding and trust!
Parent Up encourages you to make your meaningful meal time happen. It doesn’t have to be dinner — instead it can be breakfast or an afterschool snack break. It doesn’t have to be a three-course meal — the meal can come from a can, a box, or a bag It doesn’t have to be at home — some nights your dinner table might look more like a parking spot at a fast food chain. It will require 20 minutes of time where everyone is unplugged, talking, and eating together. And research suggests that “regular” is at least 4 times a week. With some consistency and creativity, your efforts will have major payoffs. And Parent Up is here to help! Cruise through the resources below to find just the information you need to help your meal times succeed:
