Message from Superintendent Dr. Latrice N. Mumin
Greetings, CUSD Families!
This week, we are celebrating Thanksgiving Week, and I want to take a moment to share how thankful I am for our incredible school community. Your support has made the start of this school year as smooth as possible, even as we’ve worked through some challenges together.
Fall break officially begins tomorrow, November 28. Schools and offices will reopen on Monday, December 2.
Looking ahead, winter recess is less than a month away and will run from December 23 to January 3. While the first marking quarter has just ended, it’s important to stay focused, as the second marking quarter will be over before we know it with the holidays fast approaching.
I hope you enjoy this small break and begin to embrace the joy and cheerfulness of the holiday season.
Also, we have several district-wide events happening in December. Those initiatives are outlined in this edition of Clipper Connection. Please mark your calendar and come out to support.
See you all next month.

CUSD Distributes 3,200 Coats
Our Annual Coat Drive was a success. Thanks to the support of M&T Bank, over were able to distribute 3,200 coats to CUSD elementary and middle school students.
We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to M&T Bank for their generous financial support that helped us purchase additional coats and for their volunteer efforts. We are also grateful to the Boys and Girls Club of Chester and Widener University for their support during the event.
A special thank you goes to Ms. Claudia Averette for working to coordinate the event, as well as to our CUSD staff for helping to make this event a success."
3rd Annual Pre-Thanksgiving Grandparents Luncheon
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, CUSD hosted the 3rd Annual Grandparents Pre-Thanksgiving Luncheon at Chester High School last week.
This special event is our way of showing appreciation to the seniors in our community.
This year’s luncheon was extra special thanks to the talented students in our CTE culinary arts and marketing programs. These incredible students took the lead in preparing delicious desserts and helping host the event.
On behalf of CUSD, I would like to thank our community partners, including the City of Chester and Red Brick Café, for providing a wonderful meal and supporting this holiday tradition.
STEM TV News - 1st Episode of 2024/2025 School Year
STEM students have officially completed their first episode of STEM TV News for the 2024-2025 school year!
This student newscast show is entirely written and produced by our talented STEM students who are currently enrolled in the CTE Communications Program.
I’m so excited for our community to view the show and see the hard work, creativity, and dedication shown by our scholars.
You can watch the episode online by clicking the video below.
Stay tuned for more episodes to come!
CUSD Goes Red
On November 15, CUSD staff, students, and two of our school board directors, Tasliym Morales and Amanda Johnson, brought out their best red gear to raise awareness for Pennsylvania ECYEH (Education for Children and Youth Experiencing Homelessness) Awareness Week.
Students experiencing homelessness graduate at a lower rate than their housed peers.
CUSD's Department of Equitable Learning and Support is available to assist students experiencing homelessness.
Through this department, students who qualify under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act can access critical resources to support their well-being and educational success.
One of these resources is the Victory Closet, which offers clothing and hygiene products to ensure students have what they need to feel confident and cared for, both inside and outside the classroom.
Anyone who needs further information about Victory Closet or resources to support a CUSD student who may be experiencing homelessness should contact Ms. Dana Bowser at dbowser@chesteruplandsd.org.
