A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
Happy April....only 8 more weeks of school left! Good choices, using your time wisely, trying your best as we roll into testing season, and soaking up the end of year good stuff before a nice long summer break is upon us!
Every April Autism Speaks celebrates World Autism Month! HELP SHOW SUPPORT EVERY MONDAY IN APRIL BY WEARING BLUE AT THE RANCH! Everyone is encouraged to participate, whether you have autism, love someone who does, or are looking to support a diverse, accepting and kind community!
ONE MORE TIME!
ATTENTION LATE ARRIVAL AND EARLY OFF SENIORS
Seniors, if you have either of these, you must be OFF campus during these periods. This means you actually leave the building right after your last class and return after school if you need to attend tutorials or practice. You should not be walking around the building during these off periods, as instruction is still happening for the majority of this campus, and it has become disruptive to the learning environment. Please keep in mind that these "OFF" periods were originally put in place for students that were working, therefore moving forward, if you do not leave the building we will be adding a class to your schedule or you can leave, like you originally requested. *This is a privilege, not a right for JUST being a senior. Please make sure you have a plan (and ride) to get home starting tomorrow, so we do not have to make a schedule change.
*Juniors, if you requested off periods for the 22-23 school year you will have to meet a few academic/behavior/ transportation qualifications before I will grant these requests. I will be sharing these with you in the next few weeks.
As the weather begins to warm back up this month, please make sure you are WELL within dress code. That means your shorts are LONG enough, shorts can be SEEN WELL BELOW those oversized t-shirts, no mid drift showing (which means the length of your shirt matters too), and no hoodies UP inside the building. Also, you should NOT be carrying a blanket around, if you feel the building is cold, bring a jacket or sweatshirt.
LESS THAN 50 Yearbooks Left! Better Hurry!
ID's are mandatory!
If you do not have an ID at this point, you will need to purchase a new one for $5 in the library from 8:00-8:15am. If you choose not to, there will be a HOLD placed on your account for the end of year. (exemptions/graduation/final grades, etc) Remember No ID = No Tech visible! Please make sure you are following this rule as well as being in dress code and to ensure that you are not written up for non compliance.
The front office is open daily Monday- Friday 8:00-4:00pm to assist you. You can also directly email us or call 832-223-4200 during the same hours. We are happy to help!

TENNIS
The varsity longhorn tennis team competed well in the district tournament this past week. Michael Pearson and Maddie Sams went into the tournament as an unseeded team. On day one of the tournament, they knocked out the number three seed from Elkins. In the semi-final round of play they fell short to a talented doubles team from Clements. Play continued on day two in a competitive match up against two talented seniors from Travis. Michael and Maddie defeated the number four seed from Travis in three long sets which earned them third place overall in the district tournament. In boys doubles, Cristian Johnson and Darren Johnson earned 4th place overall. On day one of the district tournament our boys knocked out the number three seed from Dulles in straight sets. In the semi-final round they lost to a skilled doubles team from Clements. On day two of the district tournament, Cristian & Darren fell short to a strong doubles team from Austin. In the boys single division, Santiago Allub earned 4th place out of 16 players. Santiago won big against Bush and Travis to earn a spot in the semi-finals. Then he played a talented senior from Clements and lost both sets in tiebreakers. On day two of the tournament Santiago lost to a young up and coming player from Austin. The team competed better than they ever have in such a competitive district and I could not be more proud of who we are as a team both on and off the court. I want to give our seniors a special shoutout: Cristian, Tyler, Josh, Diego, Olivia, Sofia, Jasmine, Katie, Chelsea, Hannah, & Bella. The seniors have had such a positive influence on the entire tennis program and they will be greatly missed by all. We wish them all the best moving forward and are grateful for the time spent together and memories made over the past four years.
TRACK
One Big Maroon Team….One Big Longhorn Family! Coach Ollivierre and Coach Dutch wanted to tell all our Varsity track kids that helped us host our JV meet that they are appreciated more than you know. Loved the way our Freshman & JV teams competed last night, too!
