Professor Edwin Meyer from Baldwin Wallace taught our 5th graders about higher order thinking strategies and how important it is to not give up when things get difficult!

The district's Gifted and Talented Coordinator, Ellen Foster, recently presented at our staff in-service day back in February. Teachers learned about "hexagonal " puzzles. This activity encourages higher level thinking. Mrs. Mattox's class used their recent ecosystem studies to complete the activity.

Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year is now open! Children must turn 5 on/before August 1st to enroll. Registration will be done online. If you do not have access to a computer, they are available at the Board of Education Office (3643 Center Road, Brunswick, Ohio). More details can be found on the BCSD website under “Enrollment.” Please click HERE for answers to frequently asked questions. Classroom News This Week

I visited third, fourth, and fifth grade classrooms and we started to identify Coping Skills that we find helpful when we experience a big emotion that is uncomfortable. Students reviewed the part of our brains that stores our emotions (Hippocampus), helps us make decisions (Prefrontal Cortex), and controls our emotions (Amygdala). Understanding the functions of these parts of our brains, helps students to better recognize when they are experiencing a strong emotion. Over the last two weeks in February, we will finish up our Emotion Management Unit.
