A Colloquy with Ms. Goodrich
⛄Seasons Greetings!⛄
Confucius said "By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest." This is the perfect statement as to how students should be learning in the classroom. They should be looking back at their work and correcting and learning from mistakes. They should be paying attention to the teacher and their examples, words, procedures, etc. They also should be trying. Perfection is never a goal. All educators want their students to do is try. We want to see what they are thinking; what they already know; and what misconceptions they may have. This is why Confucius said that experience is the bitterest, because it's the hardest. It may take some time and many tries to obtain the wisdom, but they will get there; just like a baby learning to walk. All of the staff here at Platte-Geddes Elementary are your children's biggest cheerleaders, working hard everyday to keep the bitterness away and success at play.
Thank you to all who help make PGES an amazing place to be. We are a community with many gifts and talents, which we share daily with one another and most importantly, our students. From the classroom, to your living room and all points in-between, our collective efforts to raise the whole child are filled with passion, commitment and a willingness to make decisions that may be hard in the present, but will have a positive and lasting influence in the future for all.
Parents and guardians, you are such a critical part of all we hope to accomplish on behalf of our scholars. I am grateful to you for masterfully doing what I know is the hardest, most rewarding and joyous job of all. Thank you for entrusting us at PGES with your most precious gift(s). I am grateful to our wonderful, talented, creative, inquisitive, optimistic, resourceful and resilient students. Often, they make us laugh, sometimes they make us cry, but always they make us think. Most of all, they make us better.
As we enjoy the upcoming holidays, it is my fervent wish that each of you receives and returns the seasonal bounty of blessings and good tidings that make these days truly special. Please have a safe and joyous holiday season.
Happy Holidays! 🎄

ATTENDANCE AT EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
If your child does not attend school, they will not be allowed to attend extracurricular activities on that day. We are requesting that elementary students sit with their parents. If students are at an event, they should be there to watch the participants, not to run around the hallways and play. Students who are running around and have been warned to sit down could be removed from the building for the remainder of the event. Please note: The office doors lock at 4:00pm; therefore, there is no entrance into the building on the playground side. If students need to enter to building, they will need to go around to the gym entrance.
