COUNSELOR’S CORNER:
GPA Exemptions: If a current junior or senior would like to have a GPA exemption for a program such as football or orchestra, please have them contact their counselor for a GPA exemption form. Students can add or take away a GPA exemption through January 29, 2021. Students who might seek a GPA exemption should currently have at least a 4.0 weighted GPA. Further information on GPA exemptions can be found on the counselor’s webpage. Additional information about GPA exemptions and GPA exempt courses can be found on the district’s link:

Updated GPA and Class Ranks:
Seniors will have their GPA and Class Rank updated by February 1, 2021. The GPA and class rank will cover their 7 semesters of high school. For honor rank at graduation, the third quarter mark will be used as their final spring semester grade in GPA calculation. This GPA and class rank will be released the second week in April
.
Junior GPA and Class Rank will be run next. We hope to have it ready by February 26, 2021.
Sophomore GPA and Class Rank will be downloaded before we leave for spring break on March 11, 2021.
Pre-Registration for 2021-2022 will start with Blitz week, January 19 through January 22, 2021. During this week, all core teachers will give their advisements for their students. Parents and students will be able to see those advisements on their four year plan tab on Parent Access Center (PAC) and Student Access Center (SAC). In addition, elective teachers will also start to visit with students during this time about the various programs in their departments.
Step One for the Preregistration process is the paper course selection worksheet. Students in all grade levels will receive a paper course selection worksheet through their English classes during the week of January 25 through January 29. On these worksheets, students will be able to see what the course choices are for their upcoming grade level. For example, seniors have more choices of electives than the incoming sophomores and juniors.
Step Two for the Preregistration process involves the use of a computer, phone, or tablet. The online registration window is open from January 25, 2021 through February 5, 2021. Students and parents will need to login to their Students Access Center (SAC) or their Parent Access Center (PAC) to complete the registration process online. The courses can be found under the 4 Yr Plan tab for each student. Step by step directions and screen shots for online registration can be found on TWHS main webpage http://twhs.conroeisd.net/. It is important to note that we will be using the courses in the 4 Yr Plan as the final course request. The student’s paper copy will only be used as a resource to aide parents and students in the course selection process. Therefore, please make sure the courses in SAC or PAC are correct by the course selection sheet deadline of February 5, 2021.

Final Day to make changes to Course Selections for the 2021-2022 Calendar Year: April 30, 2021
Upcoming Individual Student Conferences with their Counselors:

In addition, they will discuss other topics that are pertinent to each grade level. For instance, upcoming juniors will hear a lot about taking the SAT and ACT next year in the spring.
Attention Junior Parents only:
The Woodlands High School is going to offer a SAT School day on March 24, 2021 for juniors only as their one free test offered to each student by the state. Students can sign up for the test through their School Cash online accounts starting on Monday, January 11, 2021 and will close on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. The deadline to sign up for the exam is a hard deadline since we must put in our order to College Board on January 29, 2021. Therefore, do not forget to sign up on time!
CLINIC NOTES:
As COVID cases continue to spike, we want to remind everyone to continue to be vigilant about wearing a mask that covers BOTH YOUR NOSE AND YOUR MOUTH while at school (unless eating or drinking), or anywhere else in public where you may be in close contact with others. Avoid touching your face, sanitize your hands frequently, stay home if you are having any symptoms, and avoid gatherings or riding in cars with people who you do not live with. We need everyone’s help to stop the spread of this virus, and ensure that our schools can stay open.
Parents, if someone in your household tests positive for COVID, please notify the school clinic as soon as possible at 936-709-1076 for the Senior Campus or at 832-592-8209 for the 9th Grade Campus, and email a copy of the positive test, if it is for one of our students, to aransley@conroeisd.net for the Senior Campus or to jffletcher@conroeisd.net for the 9th Grade Campus. Please also contact the clinic if your child has been identified as a close contact to someone who tests positive, so that we can review the quarantine guidelines with you. If your student is having symptoms and has a pending test, please keep them home until the test results are received.
If your child is returning to in-person learning this semester and has a medical condition that requires them to have medication on campus, please go to the following link to sign up for a time slot to check in medication, or turn in doctor's orders: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0a4da8a82da5f94-medication

BOYS BASKETBALL:
December 18th vs. Klein Collins
On Friday, December 15th, The Highlanders faced the Klein Collins Tigers in their final non-district contest. The Highlanders started quickly, jumping out to a 16-2 lead with 1 minute remaining in the first quarter, after which they proceeded to get outscored 19-4 over the next 5 minutes. They found themselves trailing 21-20 with 4:08 to go in the half. The Highlanders play improved a bit after that, and they went into halftime up 29-23, led by 12 first-half points from Shey Eberwein. The Highlanders stretched the lead to 13 by the end of the 3rd quarter at 45-32 and then were up 56-37 with 4:00 remaining in the game, allowing Coach Reed to rest the starters. The final score was 57-47, and The Highlanders improved to 9-3 heading into District play. Scoring for The Highlanders was as follows: Shey Eberwein-22, Brock Luechtefeld-17, Hagen Byerly-9, David Omokwale-5, Cade Moore-3, and Kylan Williams-1. In other games, the JV won 35-32, the Sophomores won 61-32, the Freshman Green lost 64-72, and the Freshman Red won 42-32.
December 22nd vs. Oak Ridge
The Highlanders opened District play on Tuesday, December 22nd against the Oak Ridge War Eagles. Unlike their game against Klein Collins, The Highlanders started slowly and found themselves trailing 17-15 at the end of the 1st quarter. Play improved for The Highlanders on both ends of the floor in the 2nd quarter as they were able to build a 29-23 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter saw the War Eagles convert on offense, scoring 19 points, and going into the 4th quarter, The Highlanders were down 45-44. The Highlanders finally found their stroke in the 4th quarter as they went on a 16-7 run to start the quarter and opened up a 60-51 lead with 4:33 to play in the game. Their run was led by Shey Eberwein’s 13 points in the 4th quarter, and the Highlanders pulled away to win by a final score of 72-58. This was The Highlanders first District win of the year and improved their record to 10-3 overall and 1-0 in District. The Highlanders had three players in double figures with scoring as follows: Brock Luechtefeld-20, Shey Eberwein-17, Isaiah Brown-12, Kylan Williams-8, David Omokwale-5, Cade Moore-5, Zach Bernu-3, and Hagen Byerly-2. In other games, the JV won 49-47, the Sophomores won 44-24, the Freshman Green won 56-33, and the Freshman Red won 29-20.
December 31st vs. Grand Oaks
The Highlanders faced the Grand Oaks Grizzlies in an unusual New Year’s Eve game that had been rescheduled due to COVID-19 protocols. The Highlanders changed their lineup for the game, giving Isaiah Brown the start. Isaiah capitalized on the opportunity, opening the game with a couple of nice 3-pointers and 10 opening-quarter points. Quality play gave The Highlanders a 19-13 lead with 30 seconds to play in the quarter, but a foul and a turnover to end the 1st quarter allowed the Grizzlies to close the gap to 19-17. The Highlanders played well in the 2nd quarter, and by halftime they had opened up a 9-point lead at 37-28. During the 3rd quarter, the Highlanders stretched the lead further to 13 at 54-41, and then they put the game away early in the 4th quarter, going on a 12-2 run that increased the lead to 66-43 with 4:39 to play. This allowed Coach Reed to rest the starters for the remainder of the game and led to a final score of 68-48. The win improved The Highlanders to 11-3 overall and 2-0 in District play. The Highlanders again had three players in double figures with scoring as follows: Isaiah Brown-21, Brock Luechtefeld-17, Shey Eberwein-12, David Omokwale-8, Kylan Williams-4, Cade Moore-4, and Justin Sheldon-2. There were no other games on the day.
January 2nd vs. Conroe
The Highlanders faced the Conroe Tigers on Saturday, January 2nd in their third district game. Scoring for both teams started off slowly, and the first quarter ended with The Highlanders up 12-9. Scoring picked up for both teams in the 2nd quarter, and at halftime, The Highlanders were clinging to a 33-32 lead with Isaiah Brown scoring 15 points in the opening half. During the 3rd quarter, the teams traded baskets, with The Highlanders clinging to that same 1 point lead, up 48-47 going into the 4th quarter. Scoring was hard to come by for most of the 4th quarter, and with 2:42 remaining in the game, the Conroe Tigers tied up the game at 55-55. On the ensuing possession, the Tigers fouled, but The Highlanders missed the free throw. Fortunately, the Tigers turned the ball over immediately, and on their next possession Brock Luechtefeld scored to give The Highlanders a 57-55 lead. A steal by David Omokwale provided an opportunity to extend the lead, but a missed layup and a field goal by the Tigers on their next possession knotted the score again at 57-57. Following another turnover by The Highlanders, the Tigers had an opportunity to take the lead, but a missed basket gave The Highlanders the ball back again, and Isaiah Brown capitalized with a big basket to give The Highlanders a two-point lead at 59-57. A miss by the Tigers and an immediate foul put Hagen Byerly at the line facing a one-and-one. Hagen hit both free throws, extending the lead to 4 points, but on their next possession, the Tigers hit a three-pointer to cut the lead back to one with 4.75 second remaining in the game. The Tigers fouled Hagen Byerly again on the inbounds play to stop the clock, and Hagen hit two more clutch free throws to extend the lead back to 3 points. The Tigers missed their final shot, and The Highlanders were able to escape with a 63-60 victory. The win improved The Highlanders to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in District play. The Highlanders again had three players in double figures with scoring as follows: Isaiah Brown-19, Brock Luechtefeld-18, David Omokwale-11, Shey Eberwein-8, and Hagen Byerly-7. In other games, the JV won 52-47, the Sophomores won 50-28, the Freshman Green lost 48-57, and the Freshman Red won 43-30.
January 6th vs. College Park
On Wednesday, January 6th, The Highlanders faced the College Park Cavaliers. Both teams came into the game with identical 12-3 overall records and 3-0 District records. So in addition to this being a big rivalry game, the winner would be in sole possession of first place in the district. The game started slowly for both teams, but with three made baskets by Brock Luechtefeld, The Highlanders were holding onto a 6-3 lead with about 3:30 to go in the 1st quarter. After a made bucket by the Cavaliers closed the gap to 6-5, The Highlanders turned the ball over on their next possession leading to a dunk by the Cavaliers. This gave the Cavaliers a 7-6 lead, a lead they would never relinquish. At the end of the 1st quarter, the Cavaliers led 14-6, and by halftime, they had increased their lead to 30-17. The teams played mostly even in the 3rd quarter, and going into the final quarter, The Highlanders trailed 42-28. But a comeback was not in the cards as the Cavaliers extended their lead in the 4th quarter, resulting in a final score of 63-40. The Highlanders record fell to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in district. Scoring for The Highlanders was: Brock Luechtefeld-14, Isaiah Brown-12, Kylan Williams-5, Shey Eberwein-2, Hagen Byerly-2, David Omokwale-2, Chase Edwards-2, and Sam Suter-1. In other games, the JV won 52-50, the Sophomores won 52-42, the Freshman Green lost 41-53, and the Freshman Red won 54-32.
- The Highlanders play at Willis on Saturday January 9th with games starting at 9am, 10:30 and noon.
LADY HIGHLANDER BASKETBALL: Although, this basketball season has come with many twists and turns due to Covid, we're thankful we've made it to District play! The Freshmen Lady Highlanders have gotten off to a 2-0 start with tremendous play from both Campbell Biggerstaff and Isabella Moore as our leaders. Our team works hard to build confidence and cohesiveness and it is starting to pay-off on both ends of the floor. Isabella Moore and Caroline Kato have been dominating the paint area, with huge blocks, rebounds, hustle plays, and offensive put-backs. Campbell Biggerstaff, Regina Contreras, and Aurora Hernandez, have been giving opposing defenses headaches as a three-headed attack. Our reserve group led by Kiara Jackson and Juliana Vaquera, have also been giving us great play off the bench. Next up, we're at home versus Willis, on Saturday at 9:00. Come get an early morning dose of good basketball!
The Lady Highlander JV team continues to display some phenomenal basketball as the season progresses. The Highlanders hold a season record of 13-2 and a District record of 2-0. The Lady Highlanders district opener was against the Lady Tigers of Conroe High School. The game ended in favor of the Highlanders with a final score of 41-25. Chaniyah Hill was named Player of the Game for her immediate spark off the bench, phenomenal defensive efforts, and added offensive contributions. Last night, the Lady Highlanders captured their second district win versus College Park with a final score of 38-25. Ashleigh Dixon was named Player of the Game for being an absolute beast on the court. She displayed tremendous efforts on the defensive end, and her ability to hit crucial free throws, solidified the victory. Great wins ladies! Let's continue to improve and take it one game at a time to reach our goal!
Lady Highlander Varsity basketball has dropped a couple close games to start out district play. The good news is that we will see the teams again, and we know that we can take them down in the next round. Last Saturday the Lady Highlanders started out District play against Conroe and came up just a little short with a 59-54 loss. Regardless of the score there were some girls who stepped up with some great play for the game. Anna-Claire Biggerstaff had one of her best games of the season and led the Lady Highlanders with 19 pts. Anna Orr also had a solid game with 14pts, and Laura Haas did a great job contributing 8pts and leading rebounds with 6 on the night. Tuesday the Lady Highlanders lost another close one to College Park 44-38. The girls had a rough 1st half that had them down 18, but what a great job they did in the 2nd half battling back and making it a game in the final minutes! Leading the way for the Lady Highlanders was once again Anna-Claire Biggerstaff with 11pts and 7 rebounds. Sowmya Swaminathan did a great job from the free throw line contributing 8 points, and Brianna Dickson did a nice job of hitting a couple of big 3's and contributing 6pts on the night.
- The Lady Highlanders are back in action here at home on Saturday, Jan. 9th and can't wait to take down Willis at 12pm!! Go Highlanders!!
