Leadership Message
Dear St. Luke Families,
We had another great week at St. Luke.Even though we have only been in school for a short time we have already begun the process of assessing our students' math and literacy skills. We will be testing over the next few weeks to determine baselines for all our students.
We are looking forward to our Welcome Back BBQ in combination with Meeting this year's Teachers. Please come out and join us on Thursday September 14th from 5:30 - 7:00 pm. The BBQ will be available between 5:30 - 6:15. At 6:15 there will be a short introduction of staff plus an introduction of this year’s theme. “Go Light Our World” in our gymnasium. After the presentation you are welcome to join your child’s teacher in their classroom to take a look around and to ask any questions you may have about the school year. There will also be a scavenger hunt for the students with a chance to enter a draw for some great prizes.I look forward to seeing and meeting you on Thursday.
Have a wonderful weekend,

Back to School Letter from Alberta Education
To better understand how this year's provincial budget has impacted our school district, please visit the Trustee Advocacy page on our website. This page highlights our four key priorities as we continue to engage our elected officials.
SCHOOL COUNCIL/PARENT ASSOCIATION
Welcome back to the start of a new school year! And a warm welcome to those families joining St. Luke this year. As a parent/guardian of a St. Luke student, you are automatically a member of our School Council. Our first meeting of the year, the Annual General Meeting, is coming up on September 18, 2023 at 6:30pm and will be held in the school cafeteria.
The Alberta School Councils’ Association describes a council as “… structured groups of parents, principals, teachers, secondary students and community representatives who work together to effectively support and enhance student learning. They provide a means for members of the school community to consult with and provide advice to the principal and the school board…The Government of Alberta recognizes the value of parents and the community to be engaged in the education of children. It is through school council that parents, community members and school staff have a means of participating in decisions that impact student learning success.”
As with any council, ours includes executive positions to be filled each year to help in our success. Those positions include the Chair, Vice-Chair/Communications Officer, Secretary and Treasurer.
Our current Bylaws state:
Chairperson
The Chairperson shall preside over all meetings, keeping order and facilitating procedure in order to ensure positive results and motions and he/she is responsible for the general conduct of the councils’ business. The chairperson shall be an ex-officio member of all committees. He/she shall, when present, preside at all meetings of the council. The chairperson shall coordinate the formation, reporting and dissolution of all committees. In his/her absence the Vice-Chair shall preside at any such meeting and in the absence of both, a chair may be elected by those present at the meeting to preside thereat.
Vice-Chairperson/Communications Officer
In the absence of the chair he/she will act on the chair’s behalf and have all the authority and responsibilities generally designated to the chair. The Vice-Chairperson will assume any duties delegated by the chair.
Secretary
It shall be the duty of the Secretary to attend all the meetings of the council and to keep accurate minutes of the same. In case of the absence of the Secretary, his/her duties will be discharged by such officer as may be appointed by the council. The Secretary shall keep a record of all members of the council and executive and send notices of all meetings as required, shall assume responsibility for all correspondence and communication and shall assume responsibility for maintaining the Minute Book within the school.
Treasurer
The Treasurer shall receive all money paid to the Council and deposit same in whatever financial institution the council may order, properly account for the funds of the Council using acceptable bookkeeping methods and shall present a full detailed account of receipts and disbursements to the Council whenever requested and shall prepare for submission to the Annual General Meeting and the School Board and submit a copy of the same to the Secretary for the records of the Council.
Each of these positions becomes available at the Annual General Meeting on September 18, 2023. Please consider joining the executive team and aiding in moving our Council forward this year. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Members of the School Council can be reached at: stlukeparentcouncileics@gmail.com
If you haven’t already, please join our parent Facebook page. This page provides the opportunity for parents to share information and to ask questions regarding our school. Parents on this page should conduct themselves in a manner that maintains respect. Inappropriate posts and comments will be removed.
School Council and Parent Association meetings are combined and occur once monthly. Please consider joining us to share your ideas!
FREE BABYSITTING is provided in the school gym for all meetings throughout the year.
HOT LUNCH DEADLINE: SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 10!
What is Hot Lunch?
The hot lunch program is coordinated by your St. Luke Parent Council and parent volunteers as a fun option for lunch but also serves as a fundraiser for our St. Luke students. It is an optional program for parents who wish to order in a "hot" meal every Thursday. You pre-order lunches prior to the start of each session and then each Thursday your child's lunch will be delivered to their classroom. There will be 4 sessions offered throughout the school year, with the first session running from September 14th to October 26th.
How do I order Hot Lunch?
ALL parents will need to create a new login as it will not carry over from last year. You are welcome to use the same login/password as last year.
To create a hot lunch account:
- Go to stluke.hotlunches.net
- Click on "Click Here to Register"
- Enter Access Code stluke
- Complete the rest of the registration form. (Including your email address will ensure you receive reminder emails about hot lunch order deadlines, and your child's hot lunch order for the upcoming week)
- Click the "Register Now" button at the bottom
- Follow the instructions to add each child in your family who attends St. Luke. Once your child(ren) are registered, click on "Orders"
- Proceed to order hot lunch for your child(ren)
You must pay with a credit card via Bambora.
The hot lunch online order system requires a small amount of setup time at the beginning as you must register each child you have attending our school prior to ordering hot lunch EACH YEAR. Once the initial setup process is complete, your hot lunch orders for the remainder of the year should be quick and simple.
What if my child is away or sick on a hot lunch day?
If you know your child will miss one of the pre-ordered lunches, please contact Shelby at hotlunchstluke@gmail.com. If there is enough notice, we may be able to cancel and refund your order.
If your child is sick or there is not enough notice to cancel, you can let the team know via hotlunchstluke@gmail.com or via FB messenger if you'd like to have the hot lunch sent home with a sibling, or given to another student at school.
If you have any questions or require support setting up your account or ordering, please do not hesitate to contact Shelby Mistecki at hotlunchstluke@gmail.com.
