Cedar Hill Set To Open District 6A-11 Competition on Friday
The Cedar Hill High School Football Team closed out non-district competition against #6 Southlake Carroll in its home opener last Friday.
The Longhorns (1-2) lost 31-6, but they were able to take away some positives from the game.
Cedar Hill had nine ball carriers, including Ashton Blake, who had six rushes for 86 yards and his first touchdown of the season.
Here's a photo gallery from the Southlake Carroll game.
Zhaiylen Scott continued to succeed on the offensive side of the ball, with eight carries for a career-high 95 yards. This is the star defensive end's first time playing running back since middle school. Cededrick Castleberry rushed for more than 35 yards for the third consecutive game.
The Longhorns outrushed the Dragons, 272-218, although Carroll outgained Cedar Hill, 398-343 overall.
The Longhorn Defense held the Dragons to 31 points - less than the 63.5 points they'd been averaging through the first two games of the season.
"Statistically, we were in the game with them, but we made key mistakes on big plays," Cedar Hill head football coach Nick Ward said. "Our defense gave up a big run and a big pass. Offensively, we moved the ball on them a little, but we weren't able to complete the drive."
Cedar Hill will face an undefeated opponent for the fourth consecutive week. They'll host Waxahachie in both teams' District 6A-11 Opener.
Last year, WHS defeated Cedar Hill for the first time since 1999.
"They're a good team - at this point, we're treating them like they're Rockwall or Southlake Carroll," Ward said.
Morales' Return to Cedar Hill
Ward hoped Morales would remain on the 2023 staff, but he decided to take an opportunity in Waxahachie.
"It will be good to see him - he spent (approximately) 20 years in the district," Ward said. "Cedar Hill will always be home for home, and we'll treat him as such before and after the game."
