PBL - feedback
Last week I shared a short overview of some areas that the staff are examining at present. This week a handful of students came along to the staff meeting to share their thoughts with the team which is looking at project or passion based learning (PBL). Many of you will have received a survey from the project based learning group. The survey is a way for you to share your voice on potential opportunities or learning opportunities that you think we could make happen during this time, or to offer your time or expertise, or simply to ask any questions that you might have regarding the concept. I think that we have a great curriculum here that provides a great deal of progression for our students. What I hope a PBL approach would bring is the ability for students to have a little more choice in what and how they learn, more opportunities to collaborate across year levels and finally, real life opportunities to engage with the entire community.
Finally I've possibly not reminded you in a while that my door is always open. If you're keen to share your thoughts, have any concerns or just want a bit of my time, feel free to get in touch. (s.mustor@fiordland.school.nz)

Southern Primary/Intermediate Tennis Tournament
Another awesome effort by all the Fiordland College students who took part in the Southern playoffs in Dunedin on Friday 11 November.
After some epic battles on court Maisie Gawith came away with the win for the girls.
Jonty Jones placed 5th, Riley Carter 6th and Zack McMurtrie 7th for the boys.
Maisie, Jonty and Riley have qualified to compete in the South Island finals held in Ashburton next week 21-22nd Nov!!
Murihiku Tertiary Academy / SIT
Murihiku Tertiary Academy, in partnership with the Southern Institute of Technology, provides practical trades and career options to Southland secondary school students. Students can try practical and hands-on training programmes that contribute towards their NCEA Level 2 and Level 3. Their programmes help students get ready for higher level study, apprenticeships or a job. This year Cleavland Matthews travelled to SIT every Friday for the whole of the year and completed a course in Engineering - Auto Mechanical. He built and raced a mini bike.
