WMS Weekly Warrior
January 27, 2025

Good Afternoon Woodbury Middle School Community,
We hope you had a nice weekend and that your March Madness bracket still has some teams advancing. As we enter the last week of March, we want to remind you of the many things happening here at WMS.
Thursday is March Madness at WMS! This exciting two-hour event allows students to participate in various activities, including a video game truck, carnival games, face painting, and basketball in the gym. These are just a few fun events, and it’s guaranteed a great time. Food will also be served. Thank you to Alliance, PIM, and the teachers who volunteer their time for this great school event.
Tickets for March Madness must be purchased in advance and are being sold during lunch waves today and tomorrow. The cost to enter is ten dollars, which includes access to all activities. Please note all the money charged goes directly to paying the expenses of the evening. This is not a fundraiser.
Drop-off for March Madness will be at the front of the building, and doors will open at 4:50 PM. To facilitate a smoother pick-up process, we will dismiss students from three designated locations (8th grade in the back by the cafe, 7th grade at the Main Entrance, and 6th grade at the School Street circle). Please pick up your child from the area corresponding to their grade level. If you have multiple students, please remind them they will be picked up at the pick-up area for the oldest sibling. The map linked here will show the grade-level pick-up areas.
As the year gets busier, many groups ask that we place information in our Weekly Warrior. The information is often published in a flyer for quick access. Please read the new flyers this week, as they have essential information regarding the upcoming Region 14 budget and a pasta dinner fundraiser.
Spring Sports begin today (weather permitting) with tryouts for baseball, softball, and track. Thanks to the great coaches who will be leading our teams to another successful season.
This is information from last week’s Warrior that bears repeating:
As part of our commitment to supporting all members of our learning community and addressing potential challenges, we are organizing a Parent Forum (Date to be determined). This event will feature experts who will share valuable information and tips. Additionally, a Question and Answer session will allow parents to interact directly with our experts.
Dinner will be provided for all attendees, and each participant will receive a student IXL "skip" pass to take home to their child. We want to make this forum as beneficial as possible for our parents and guardians; please take this brief survey to determine the forum topics.
Have a great week!

Please make sure to review the Woodbury Middle School Student Handbook with your student regarding cell phones. Some of you may be aware that the state has issued recommendations on cell phone usage in schools. I have included the proposed language from the state below. Click the picture to access the entire document from the state.
• Middle School − The policy for middle school students should also focus on removing cell phones from the school day or classroom. Developmentally, this age group is particularly vulnerable to the negative effects of excessive personal technology use and has a difficult time controlling their impulses. Concurrently, middle school students experience increased autonomy and independence during the school day, which can lead to increased opportunity for cell phone misuse. − Possession of cell phones in this age group is likely to be viewed as a rite of passage into adulthood, so communication and application of policies that restrict use must be developed in consideration of the specific challenges of middle school students.
