Weekly Update
Holy Trinity Catholic School January 16th, 2025
Our Mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ,
to provide a high-quality education,
and to guide children in living the Catholic faith
Prayer
Winter in all of Our Lives
There is a winter in all of our lives,
a chill and darkness that makes us yearn
for days that have gone
or put our hope in days yet to be.
Father God, you created seasons for a purpose.
Spring is full of expectation
buds breaking
frosts abating and an awakening
of creation before the first days of summer.
Now the sun gives warmth
and comfort to our lives
reviving aching joints
bringing colour, new life
and crops to fruiting.
Autumn gives nature space
to lean back, relax and enjoy the fruits of its labour
mellow colours in sky and landscape
as the earth prepares to rest.
Then winter, cold and bare as nature takes stock
rests, unwinds, sleeps until the time is right.
An endless cycle
and yet a perfect model.
We need a winter in our lives
a time of rest, a time to stand still
a time to reacquaint ourselves
with the faith in which we live.
It is only then that we can draw strength
from the one in whom we are rooted
take time to grow and rise through the darkness
into the warm glow of your springtime
to blossom and flourish
bring colour and vitality into this world
your garden.
Thank you Father
for the seasons of our lives.
Amen
A Note from Mrs. Longden
Family time is special, and it is also the heart of our vocations. The work we do at home, loving our spouse and raising our children, is the most important work that you and I will ever do. It is in our homes that we learn to love Jesus and one another. This high calling is to lead our spouses and children to Heaven through Jesus and His Church. But when we are in the throes of family life, it is easy to lose focus. If your family is at all like mine, things go wrong, and people get hurt from time to time. The mark of a loving family is having the courage to reconcile and apologize. One way we stay focused is by remembering our mission. In his encyclical Familiaris Consortio, John Paul II wrote, “The family finds in the plan of God the creator and redeemer not only its identity, what it is, but also its mission, what it can and should do.”
As I have been talking with many of you and hearing your reasons for belonging to Holy Trinity Catholic School, I hear many of you use the word family. How beautiful that our school can feel like home, a place of trust, forgiveness, and a center of love for you and your children. You also find in our handbook and in our school’s language that we seek to partner with parents in raising leaders and disciples. As we enter the year 2025 together, let us redouble our efforts in our families and our school to stay rooted in Jesus, and let us truly work between home and school to build an authentic partnership rooted in virtue and love.
A Holy Moment: Surprise someone with a thoughtful note.
A surprise note, with God’s timing, has the potential to do something unforgettable for you and the person who receives the note. Take some time over the next couple of weeks to pause and think about this question: Who is the person you want to surprise with a thoughtful note? You’re sure to make them smile! Remember, some moments are holy. Some moments are unholy. And you get to decide!
Tips to Create This Holy Moment:
Send someone you work with an encouraging email.
Hide an encouraging note in your family member’s coat pocket.
Mail a note to someone who lives far away!
Blessings,
Mrs. Longden
