The Connection Week 11 Term 1

Today is our last day for Term 1.

Today we managed to welcome new students and families - in some cases we were welcoming children who arrived last year.

Today was the first time we have been able to have a celebration.

Today also marks the shift to Orange. This means children and staff are encouraged but not required to wear a mask. This will make things so much easier for instruction, communication and just managing learning in the classroom.

We understand schools can require and dial up masks again if we confront significant illness. We are not expecting this to be the case

• Monday 2nd May - First Day Of Term 2

Nira (Year 1) says: “Huapai School is the best because the Easter Bunny visited our classroom! I love colouring in my classroom. My teacher tells me about lots of stuff and that makes Huapai even better. I love playing with my friends at lunch time.”

Thank you to all those who have paid their school donations this year. This is such a key element to the success of our school. Your donation is what moves our school from good to great!

As a means of thanking and encouraging this we had a sponsored prize draw with every family who has paid their school donation in full by Tuesday 5th April. All of that that had paid automatically went into the draw, and families with more than 1 child who had paid the family donation had 2 entries.

Congratulations to the Tollemache family on 1st prize of the 1 term tuition from Number Works NorthWest valued at $600, and a mixed box of 6 wines.

2nd prize of a 50% discount to our Huapai Plus programme to the value of $100 and a mixed box of 6 wines went to the Antony family, with 3rd prize of a mixed box of 6 wines going to the Wells-Rode family.

Every dollar received through school donations will be used for resources that will touch the hands of your children.

We will also be doing a smaller prize later in the year in Term 3 to recognise those families that are not able to pay in full at this time of the year.

Montessori class celebrated their learning with whanau this term. The class performed a Medieval dance, sang songs and finished by having a shared morning tea with the cultural food from our roots.

Please register your child for this event. If your child is keen to be involved in the mud run this year, please use the following link to register the children directly. Entry options are open for students years 3-8.

We are on the lookout for one more player for each of the following teams:

Year 1-2 netball

Year 3-4 netball

Year 5-6 netball

Congratulations to all our 2021/22 touch rugby teams. The attitude and effort that you showed was outstanding. A huge thank you to all the coaches, managers and parents involved in the smooth running of the teams.

It is now time to return your singlets. Please pop them in a named bag or attach a note with your child’s name on and bring them to the School Office.

As a strongly encouraged and highly beneficial supplementary resource to our Year 7&8 science programme, a Start Right Science Workbook is available, payable through HERO ($17.50) with collection from your child's teacher.

The units in these workbooks cover the New Zealand Science curriculum in preparation for Year 9&10 science and fit in nicely with the topics covered in science at school as a pre or post-learning revision/consolidation. Though not compulsory, we will reference, mark and use this resource to supplement the school-based programme. As this book is an optional resource, it is, however, encouraged for our Year 7&8 students to have a copy.

Skate Lessons After School

Term 2 weekly after school skate lessons.

Thursday 3:30pm - 4:30pm at Huapai District School.

Lessons are suitable for beginners to intermediate skaters.

Our good friends at MusiqHub are looking forward to another awesome year of music in 2022 at Huapai School! They will have some slots available for Guitar, Drums, Piano and Ukulele lessons in Term 1.
