Safety & Security Update
Davis Families,
Earlier this week you received a district communication detailing D303’s efforts to enhance safety procedures for our students. In August, D303 educators took part in online and in-person ALICE training, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. As a result of this training, we are prepared to deliver age-appropriate lessons to our students, which will teach an options-based approach when responding to critical incidents.
Starting the week of September 30th, students will view an informational video, introducing them to the concepts of ALICE. Then throughout the fall students will engage in six lessons, roughly two lessons per month, with each lesson focusing the core ALICE concepts: Situational Awareness, Alert, Lockdown, Inform, and Evacuate.
Lessons are differentiated based on age-appropriateness and broken down into the following age groups:
Early Childhood-Kindergarten
1st Grade-3rd Grade
4th-5th Grade
Middle School
High School
D303’s Safety and Security website has been updated to include informational ALICE resources, such as parent letters for each lesson. Students will participate in their first safety drill utilizing the ALICE concepts in January. For more information you are encouraged to visit the ALICE Family and Community site.

Students will then set goals and brainstorm ideas to reach those goals which will be shared at his or her conference or before.
In order to prepare for these conferences, please reflect on this school year so far.
- What has been a success for your child?
- What has been a challenge?
- How can you support your child with reaching his or her goals?
The conferences will conclude with time for questions that you may have for your child or the teacher.

Exciting News: Meet Stanley, Our New Four-Legged Greeter!
Dear Davis Families,
Get ready for tail wags and smiles! We're thrilled to announce a furry addition to our Monday morning welcome committee. Starting September 30th, students will have the chance to meet Stanley, our new certified therapy dog!
Who is Stanley?
Stanley is a 2½-year-old golden retriever with a heart of gold and a smile for everyone he meets. This gentle giant knows over 40 commands and has a special motto: "Be a golden. I love everyone and am here to help and bring a smile to all."
A Trained Professional
Rest assured, Stanley isn't just any dog. He's a certified therapy dog through Healing Paws, a part of Anderson Humane Society. This means he's specially trained to interact safely and calmly with children in school settings.
Meet His Partner
Stanley will be accompanied by his partner, Mrs. Louise Von Hoff, a retired teacher who recognized Stanley's potential to brighten students' days. Together, they'll be greeting students every Monday morning, rotating between different entrances.
What to Expect
As students enter the building, they'll have the option to give Stanley a little pet or simply wave hello. There's no pressure – Stanley is happy just to see smiling faces!
Did You Know?
Stanley also spreads joy as a greeter at Bell-Graham School
He absolutely loves praise and interacting with students
His golden retriever charm is 100% guaranteed to start your week off right
We're incredibly fortunate to have Mrs. Von Hoff and Stanley join our Davis community. We can't wait for your children to experience the warmth and joy that Stanley brings to our school!
Stay tuned for more updates, and get ready for a pawsitively fantastic Monday morning!

Kindergarten students in Michele Vena’s dual language class have been learning about different traditions from several Latin American countries. The paper was and still is used not only in Mexico but in other countries for ceremonies, celebrations, medicinal purposes, and decorations.
