Friendship Day Celebration
Talbot Community School celebrated friendship day on February 14th. Throughout the month of February, the 4th & 5th grade leadership group decorated the school with hearts made by their peers that tell what they love about Talbot. They also created a paper chain to hang in the cafeteria with the names of our Talbot community members as a symbol of unity and friendship.
On the 100th day of school, members of the leadership group shared this message with the school:
"Hi, we are a part of the Leadership Club. Thanks for helping us celebrate Friendship Day by adding to our Talbot School paper chain and paper hearts. The paper chain represents how everyone is connected and special. No one is alone at Talbot, we are a team. The paper hearts are hanging in the hallways. It’s fun to read all the different things we love about our school. Try to find yours! Try to be a friend today and every day!"
Thank you to Ms. Richards, Ms. Robinson, and Mr. Young for facilitating the 4th & 5th grade leadership group and supporting this project.
One thing I love about talbot is I like how the teachers care for us.
I love how understanding the teachers are. They are so kind.
Talbot Tigers Hunt: 100 Tigers for 100 Days
Mr. Paulo organized a fun way to build community while celebrating the 100th Day of School.
100 Talbot Tiger mascots were hidden in classrooms throughout the school. Teachers and students were invited to discover these hidden mascots. The goal of this activity was to foster a sense of belonging and pride in our Talbot School Community. The 100 Days Talbot Tiger Challenge was a roaring success!
Curriculum Update: Wabanaki Studies & Local Black History
An update on the progress that the Portland Public Schools is making on developing and implementing a Wabanaki Studies curriculum and a Local Black History curriculum was presented at the Board of Public Education's Sept. 19 meeting. Both curricula are essential to help students gain an accurate, full and inclusive history of their state and nation. Both curricula also offer opportunities for interdisciplinary learning across all content areas, not just social studies.
