Weekly Wildcat
Northwestern Middle School News and Notes
November 8, 2024
Happy Friday Wildcat Country!
We would like to thank all of our Veteran community members as well as our own: Dr. Bartlett, Mr. Gregory, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Peterson, and Mr. Poole for their service.
Mr. Bill Thompson, a retired FCS principal, will be joining us next week as our interim principal. We are excited for his return to NMS as he has worked with several of our staff members here at NMS as well as other schools in the district. He will be introducing himself to the community soon.
We have hit the busy time of the year. With only 5 weeks left, students will be presented with a number of assessments, projects, and activities. Let’s keep the momentum going!!
We hope all of our families enjoy their weekend!

School Pictures
Bowen Photography (BPI) is our provider for school pictures this year. We have heard from several families that you did not receive a proof of your student's photo for this year. We have asked BPI to resend information to families. You should have received a text message and or email to the contact information we have on file in Infinite Campus. Please check your junk mail if you did not receive a message or contact BPI Customer Service - 866-363-6936
We will be holding another Retake Day on Wednesday, November 20th. If you would like for your student to have their photo retaken, please email your student's name and homeroom teacher to Rhonda McMichael (mcmichaelrw@fultonschools.org).
Peru Trip!
Dear families,
We’re going to Peru- Lima, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cuzco in Summer 2026, and you’re invited!
We’re excited to tell you more about the trip we’re planning with EF Tours, our educational travel partner. Please be sure to register for this info session to be considered for this opportunity: https://rsvp.eftours.com/x8h2n2x
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
In this info session, we’ll talk about:
- How this opportunity will benefit your student
- What we’ll see and do on our trip
- Everything that’s included in this experience
- How your child can earn academic credit
- How we’re keeping this safe and affordable
- How to enroll on this trip (before it fills up!) during EF’s risk-free enrollment period
There are limited spots on this trip, so we would love to have you attend this meeting to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
Thanks,
Katherine Ziolkowski
Spanish Teacher
*Please note this trip is not sponsored by Northwestern Middle School or Fulton County Public Schools.
Student Perception Survey
Each year, Fulton County Schools collects feedback from our families, students, and staff members about their experiences through the Annual Perception Survey.
The 2024 Annual Student Perception Survey will be administered for all Northwestern MS students on Thursday, November 8 during Homeroom.
Please review the questions in the survey below. If you do not want your student to participate in the Annual Perception Survey, please email Mr. Peterson at petersonj1@fultonschools.org by Friday, November 1st.
Parent Perception Survey
At Fulton County Schools, we truly value the feedback from our parents about their experiences with the district. That is why I encourage all parents to take the Annual Parent Perception Survey. This survey allows parents the opportunity to tell us what they think about their student’s schools and the district. While we always make it a priority to listen to our parents, this survey affords us another opportunity to receive your thoughts and opinions.
The survey is anonymous and confidential. Please complete one survey per school where you have one or more students enrolled. The survey will remain open from Wednesday, October 16 through Friday, November 22.
***Selfish Bribe For Northwestern Parents***
I will give 50 PBIS points to every student who has a parent complete the Annual Parent Perception Survey. Simply complete the survey, and email me the screenshot of the completion page (see below). I will confirm the points were given to your student(s). Parents can do this anytime during the window which stays open until November 22.
Book Fair!
The Book Fair is coming to Northwestern Middle School - November 18th - 22nd. Scholastic Book Clubs has created an eWallet for students to purchase books from the Book Fair without bringing cash or credit cards to school. See details below for more information on setting up your student's eWallet.
Convenient and secure, eWallet lets your child choose books they want to read.
Plus, you can share your eWallet link so friends and family can help your child find even more to read. Unspent funds from a past Fair? To transfer them to this Fair, log in to your Scholastic account and create a new eWallet—then your previous balance will be available to transfer as an eGift Card.
When you fund an eWallet, you can also contribute to Share the Fair, the giving program that benefits kids in your school who need help buying new books.
Visit our school’s Book Fair homepage to get started:
Book Fair Volunteers
In order to make our Book Fair run smoothly, we need volunteers! Check the Sign Up Genius link below if you are interested in coming to help with the Book Fair next month.
Communication Procedures
Students and Parents are strongly encouraged to communicate directly with their teachers. Our teachers pledge to be sensitive to your concerns and to partner with you to solve any problem. Attached below is the Communication Procedure for Northwestern Middle School. If a problem or concern should arise, speaking directly with the teacher first is always the preferred first step.
NMS Study Sessions
Study Sessions for this school year are beginning. Each teacher is available to students at least one day a week in the morning or afternoon. A list of all grade level sessions is linked below. Students are encouraged to attend with questions on homework or when extra support is needed after a lesson has been taught in class.
