New Kaupapa at IPS
The four Y3 - 8 whanau hubs are absolutely delightful as each and everyday we see our older and younger children playing and guiding each other.

First two weeks at school
These last two weeks in Panitahi each class has been setting up their classroom routines and class culture. The focus of this term is REACH (what is REACH and how do we show REACH in our classroom, in the playground and in the community). Our tamariki are also continuing to develop relationships and establish new relationships within their 2022 class.
Moa iti is welcoming our new tamariki as they start school for the first time.

Our Whanau Focus - Term 1
We are all enjoying our first few weeks in the new whanau groups and we are already forming many connections with different children across the whanau group. We are setting up expectations as a whanau about who we are and students are completing a variety of tasks around our school values, and us as a group. We look forward to implementing many cool initiatives that involve the whole whanau group.
PH Boyde and White Swimming
Our swimming days are Tuesday and Thursday, Swimming is part of the Physical Education curriculum and an essential skill for all students to practise. We are currently building skills and the students have set targets around competing in the school swimming sports for some and increasing their ability to stay afloat for others. As a whanau group we would like to try and use our leaders to help teach the younger children all year round.

Thank You
What a blessing it has been for us to be joined together as a whānau in the newest and most beautiful building here at Te Kura o Kōhanga Moa. Thank you so much for all your support in helping to bring the new building together and furnishing us with such outstanding classrooms.
Week 1 & Week 2
Greetings from the newest whānau group here at Te Kura O Kōhanga Moa. Our first two weeks together have been spent getting to know one another and finding our identity as the Tokomaru whānau.
Pouākai Pānaui / Notices
What a wonderful feel around the Pouākai Whānau and school so far this school year.
The kids are awesome, they are loving being back. And although us teachers seem to be blinking and the days are over, we are really enjoying building relationships with our tamariki, teaching and preaching REACH and developing our sense of belonging as a Multileveled Pouākai Whānau and Kōwhai House.

Our Whānau Focus - Term 1
We are beginning the Term with a focus on getting to know each other, establishing routines and exploring our School REACH values with a theme of “Get REACHED”. Because our whānau groups are a new concept, we aim to get our tamariki to design what Waiongana Iti looks like and feels like. This aims to give those in our whānau a sense of belonging.
Tuakana teina in a Collaborative Space
Our whānau is slowly starting to incorporate tuakana teina/whanaungatanga time. Developing positive relationships with eachothers year groups in our collaborative space. This is currently happening with games, swimming and outdoor activities.

Camps 2022
A plan of camp activities is available.
The Year 7 & 8 group are going to Te Wera Camp in week 5. From Monday 28 February.
Due to RED-light COVID settings, the Te Wera camp has been split into 2x classes going at a time for 3 days and 2 nights across the week. Parents we urgently need your details in this week if you are available to assist with the Te Wera Camp.
The year 5/6 year group will be heading to Vertical Horizons Camp in week 10.
The kids are being briefed about the camp and they are all very excited to be going.
Community Awesomeness
Many of these same people also assisted with the clean up at Te Kōhanga Moa Marae as there were many trees uprooted there also. - absolute legends, all of you.
COVID-19 Procedures - please read.
If we have a confirmed case of COVID -19 at IPS verified by MoH in our kura we do have procedures in place - please read...
Please be aware, you may be rung to come and collect your child at short notice as they may be deemed a close contact.
We have four stages of operation planned detailed below.
Stage 1
PRIMARY FOCUS: ONSITE LEARNING
School programmes not impacted by Covid.
Majority of staff and students on site.
Occasional staff or student absence due to Covid catered for.
Programmes primarily focused on school-based learning.
Catch up sessions for absent students when they return to school.
Stage 2
PRIMARY FOCUS: HYBRID LEARNING
School programmes impacted by Covid.
5-6 teachers across the school are absent.
Mixture of home-based and school-based learning programmes offered.
Staff responsibilities and teaching team locations are flexible.
Guest teachers, SLTs and Principal maybe called in to support learning programmes.
Priority for school based learning will be given to children of working parents.
Stage 3
PRIMARY FOCUS: HOME-BASED LEARNING
School programmes highly impacted by Covid due to large numbers of student absence.
Majority of staff are available.
The staff, in consultation with the Board, will decide to implement home-learning programmes.
Students at school will follow the home-based learning programme.
Priority for school based learning will be given to children of essential workers.
Stage 4
PRIMARY FOCUS: SCHOOL CLOSURE
School programmes heavily impacted by Covid.
Majority of staff and students absent.
Consideration of the H&S risks due to not enough staff available on-site.
No longer possible to support school-based and home-based learning programmes.
The MOE, in consultation with the Board, will decide to shut the school because learning programmes can’t be sustained.
Priority for school based learning will be given to children of essential workers.
As a community, we are supporting you to prepare for Stages 2- 4 by
1. Being familiar with our Covid Response Plan and being fully prepared should students need to switch to home-based learning.
2. Being ready at short notice should your child/ren need to isolate.
3. Keep your employer/employees informed how Covid and our Response Plan could impact your work.
4. Look at this list of things that could be handy during isolation:
Stationery, playdough, plain paper, whiteboards & whiteboard pens, games, playing cards, tennis balls, sports equipment, recipes and ingredients/baking, keep a stationery pack at home, renew library books regularly, several jigsaw puzzles stacked away, booklets and resources your child/ren could use during isolation, etc. Places like, Warehouse & Stationery Warehouse could be useful to visit.

Issues in our playground
Please know we do NOT condone any sort of targeted bullying here at IPS.
This year we have reviewed our procedures around this in line with REACH values all all children know, that if they are not playing within our REACH Values, they will lose the opportunity to play at break times.
We have also reviewed our procedures around inappropriate language and if a child continues to use inappropriate language after guidance is given around our expectations here at IPS, the child will be placed in "potty mouth club" at PRIME time.

New Student Management System Edge Mobile App
This week we have started using a new Student Management System called 'Edge'. The Edge App has some amazing functions. Some of these functions will not be available until 2022 and we will keep you posted when these can be accessed. In the meantime, please download the app (as per the picture below) and begin by sending all student absences through the app. Please also delete the "School App" as we will no longer be using this.
