Principal Update
As our year inches closer to its finale, we begin looking to next school year and ways we can grow as a community, school, and district. We’d love to know your thoughts, opinions and perspectives about your family’s experience at our school and in our district. Please take a moment to complete the SPS Family Survey. Please complete it for each child in your household that attends our schools.

Updates & Reminders
- Please take the needs assessment to provide family/guardian/community feedback to Mrs. Lorimer on our counseling program! https://forms.gle/AKafS2YWR4anHe3e7
- Yellow bus registration is tentatively scheduled to open June 3. As a reminder, the School Board recently changed the middle school walk boundary to 1.25 miles. Previously, it was 1.5 miles. Questions about yellow bus registration can be sent via this Let’s Talk portal.
- Please remember that students cannot arrive to school before 8 am. Breakfast is available in the cafeteria beginning at 8 am, and we have staff supervision for outdoor line-up starting at 8:15 am. We do not have staff to supervise students before 8 am.
- Remember to donate gently used clothes and shoes to our Blue Bin by the bike racks. These donations benefit many in our community that are served by the Northwest Center. If you are doing some spring cleaning, thinking of donating clothes from home, please consider donating to our blue bin!
- Moving and not returning next year? Please let the office know as soon as you know so we can accurately plan for classes and staffing next year!
- Please remember to notify the office of changes in dismissal plans as early as possible!

Spirit Gear Donations
Moran Prairie Spirit Gear Donation Drive
Do you have Moran Prairie spirit gear that your child has outgrown or won’t be needed next year? Donate to our first annual spirit gear collection drive! Gently used items can be dropped off at the office through Wednesday 6/7.
Items collected will be available to students, at no-cost, during the Family BBQ on 6/12. A parent / adult must accompany students when selecting spirit gear. If parents are unable to attend the Family BBQ, please reach out to your child’s teacher to request specific sizes and we will try to accommodate the request
Counselor Update
We are finishing our counseling lessons this year by talking about the upcoming transition to a new grade and class. We have discussed that it is normal to have mixed emotions about big changes like this one. Students have celebrated accomplishments from this school year and thought about what they are looking forward to next year.
Field Day + Family BBQ
Our annual Field Day is Wednesday June 12th! 🙌 Students in grade bands go outside and have 20 different stations to choose from. 3rd - 5th grade will be outside from 9:45 - 10:45, we have our family BBQ (see times below) after, then Kinder - 2nd is from 1:30 - 2:30 pm. We are looking for volunteers to help set up, run stations, and help clean up at the end! If you're available to help, please sign up using this link. You can also reach out to Ms. Hellenthal and the main office.
For the family BBQ, please plan to arrive at the schedule time for your student's grade level lunch. Families who ordered lunch will walk through the line in the cafeteria with their student, they'll have a ticket indicating what they ordered. Families who plan to bring their own food, please meet your student outside. Please note that parking will be difficult. Plan ahead in case you need to walk a little to get here in time to spend the whole lunch with your child.
Times for family BBQ lunches:
- 5th = 11:10 - 11:45 am
- 4th = 11:15 - 11:50 am
- 3rd = 11:35 - 12:10 pm
- 2nd = 11:40 - 12:15 pm
- 1st = 12:05 - 12:40 pm
- Kinder = 12:15 - 12:50 pm
Kindness Squad
The Kindness Squad is a new club at Moran Prairie that is beginning the fall of 2024. This is a leadership opportunity for 5th grade students to spread kindness at Moran Prairie and in our community.
Our goal: To spread kindness to the students, teachers, staff, and our community.
Activities: Kindness activities (this is where we will start, but it’s not limited to):
- Hi-Five Wednesdays (greeting students before school on Wednesday mornings)
- Random Acts of Kindness
- Positive Pranks (a kind version of ringing the doorbell and running)
- Teacher and staff appreciation
- Welcoming new students and staff to our school
We have a group of rising 5th graders that launched the club this week! We'll possibly be looking for more students to join once we get things rolling next year.
