April 2025
Principles Points
April is off to a fantastic start with beautiful weather, and it’s been a joy to see our students enjoying the outdoors! Their energy and excitement truly brighten the day.
As we move through the month, we’re gearing up for MAP testing. It starts the last week of April. The end of April also brings a variety of exciting field trips. The end of the school year is always a busy time, but it’s wonderful to see everything coming together.
This month, we are focusing on the character trait of inclusiveness. Inclusiveness means welcoming and respecting everyone, no matter their differences. It’s about fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and supported. By practicing inclusiveness, we help others feel seen and heard, strengthening our sense of community and connection. But inclusiveness isn’t just about how we treat others—it’s also about how we treat ourselves. Be kind to yourself, just as you would be to a friend. Avoid negative self-talk, and instead, practice self-encouragement and gratitude. If you wouldn’t say something unkind to a good neighbor, don’t say it to yourself!
Let’s make April a month of kindness, connection, and appreciation! 💙

Advice From Nurse Sandy
SPRING COLD SYMPTOMS
Spring cold symptoms can often overlap with allergies, making it difficult to distinguish between the two. Here are some common symptoms of a spring cold:
Upper Respiratory Symptoms: runny or stuffy nose, sneezing, sore throat, and cough.
Other Symptoms: Body aches, Fatigue, Headache, and Low-grade fever (rarely).
Additional Considerations:
Onset:
Cold symptoms typically develop gradually over a few days, while allergies may appear more suddenly upon exposure to triggers like pollen.
Discharge:
Cold mucus is usually thick and green or yellow, while allergic discharge is clear and watery.
Allergy History:
Individuals with a history of allergies are more likely to experience allergic reactions in the spring.
Contagiousness:
Colds are caused by viruses and are contagious, while allergies are not.
If you experience these symptoms, it's important to consult a healthcare professional to determine the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment.

MAP Testing
The Missouri Assessment Program (MAP) testing for students at Lonedell R-14 School District will take place during April and early May. MAP tests are mandated by the state, and are intended to help determine what a child knows and is able to do according to the expectations for his or her grade level. Scores on the MAP tests are also used to determine how schools are performing according to state and federal guidelines.
Please check the attachments for more information and exact dates and times for your student/s.
What can you do to help you student/s succeed on these tests?
- Attend - Make sure your child is in school on the testing dates.
- Rest - Have your child get a good night's sleep.
- Nutrition - Give your child a healthy breakfast to start the day.
