Special Week at OC
It was a great week at Oak Crest. We started the week with one of our most meaningful traditions, our Veterans Day Program. It was a memorable event for kids to learn gratitude, honor, and selflessness. Our kids always are on their best behavior for this program as they listened to words from veterans in our community, songs from our 4th graders and our 6th grade band, and poems and stories from 3rd and 4th graders. Every kid left school on Monday with a poppy to bring home as a symbol of honor to Veterans and the story of Moina Belle Michael. I hope students showed parents at home the poppy and shared some of the experience they had together.
Thank you to Chris Herrmann and Joe Fahey, our guest speakers, and to all guests who attended. Most importantly, thank you to all of our Veterans.
Have a great weekend Tigers!

Tiger Strong - 5 & 6
At Tiger Strong on Wednesday, our 5th & 6th grade students reflected on things they were aware of think a lot about in their world. They used that awareness to appreciate the good in their own world, and then took action by writing and delivering thank you notes. It was a fun process with some very thoughtful kids! Check out the banners they created below!
Lost & Found
During conferences please visit our lost and found. Our nice weather has lead to many coats and sweatshirts being left behind. Check out a recent picture here of our lost and found. We donate lost and found items after conferences, so please take a look for your child's gear!
WINTER WEATHER REMINDERS!
**Our playground is not protected from the wind, so it feels 10 degrees colder here than what it says on your weather app. Send layers, and put names on those clothes in case they are left behind! Thank you!
Opportunities to SUPPORT, GIVE, & MORE
There are a lot of opportunities this time of year for our community to support each other, or gather support as needed. Below are just a few opportunities for you to consider.
Minnesota Timberwolves Read to Achieve is currently going on at Oak Crest. The program runs from October 28- December 8. Students who read 500 minutes will receive a Timberwolves ticket offer. Students can turn their tracking sheet into Ms. Ritter in the Media Center by December 13.
Conversation Starters:
Ask your Oak Crest Tiger:
*Do you have family members who have served in the armed forces?
*What sacrifices do people make to serve our country?
*Tell me something you learned this week that you think may be new to me?
*November's tiger theme is "awareness", what good in your life are you aware of and thankful for?
*How can you you act on your appreciation and awareness?
*What book are you reading?
5th and 6th graders were able to visit the Performing Arts Center and see the Annie show. Great reviews were shared by kids. If you have a chance, it is highly recommended for all to see!
