Happenings at our Magnet Schools!
Pleasant Hill Elementary STREAM Academy
The 4th Quarter Student Showcase at PHESA was a huge success and featured Minecraft Education! Minecraft Education is a game-based platform that inspires creative, inclusive learning through play. Each grade level utilized Minecraft Education to showcase their learning by creating visualizations of the core concepts that students have been learning in class. We are proud to share that not only were academic standards addressed in the utilization of Minecraft Education, but students were also able to learn and understand SC Computer Science and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. The integration of these standards guided teachers in using technology to create high-impact, sustainable, scalable and equitable learning experiences. We would like to thank our community and stakeholders for the continued support! We are proud of the growth and gains that we have experienced this year. Below is an overview of the projects developed at each grade level.
Kindergarten - Students developed a virtual model of cultural and natural resources found around my home, community, and/or school. (K.G.2 & K.G.3)
1st Grade - Students developed a virtual model to show how they used a variety of sources to investigate and compare different landforms (e.g., coastlines, lakes, mountains, and rivers) within South Carolina. (1.G.4)
2nd Grade - Students developed a virtual model to show how they used a variety of sources to investigate and compare patterns of diversity within different habitats within the United States (and beyond). (2-LS4-1 & 2.G.2)
3rd Grade - Students developed visual models to demonstrate how to solve real-world and mathematical problems involving the area and perimeter of a polygon. (3.MDA.6)
4th Grade- Students in fourth grade were a choice of what concepts and skills that they wanted to showcase. Students developed virtual models in Minecraft Education to demonstrate a variety of concepts covered in class. These concepts ranged from habitats to events surrounding the Boston Tea Party. (4.ESS2-2, 4.2.CE, & 4.4.CE)
5th Grade - Students created visual models to demonstrate their understanding of how international events during the 20th Century affected the United States and South Carolina. (5.2.CO, 5.2.CE, & 5.2.E)
Plantersville Elementary Digital Immersion School
Plantersville Elementary Digital Immersion School hosted its final student showcase on Thursday, May 23, 2024. Our RAMcon event featured our students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. Students in Kindergarten showcased their 3D bubble wands. Students in first grade showcased their projects on plants and gardens using Minecraft Education. Second grade students showcased their projects on animal habitats using Minecraft Education. Third and fourth grade students showcased their projects on cultures using Minecraft Education. Finally, our fifth-grade students showcased their projects on historical museums using Minecraft Education. Students and staff did a phenomenal job with our student showcase.
As we wrap up this school year, we are incredibly proud of our staff and students’ resilience, creativity, and dedication to our new magnet program. The Carver’s Bay area community has thrived and we look forward to continuing this journey of innovation and excellence.

Great things CONTINUE to happen at The Ferry!
This month, four of our 5th graders had the opportunity to audition for and perform in the Swamp Fox Theaters production titled “Bedtime Stories”. Skylah Bromell, Taylor Richards, Jurnee McClain, and Brianna Nesmith were all discovered during our Black History program in February! We are so proud of these Bengals!
Our joint field day with Plantersville went off without a hitch! Our Bengals had so much fun. We cannot wait to host next year!
Our Visual Arts Showcase was a massive success! Parents and community members commented that it was our “ferry” best one to date! We couldn’t be more proud of our Bengals’ hard work and success during this last showcase! We’d like to thank our District Magnet Team as well as Promise Consulting for a successful planning day. Thank you for all of your support and input!
Finally, we said our farewells for the year to our Pre-K, Kindergarten, and Fifth Graders as they’ve all held their promotion ceremonies this past week.
Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy
Green Thumbs…
Thanks to the joint efforts of the Beta Club and the Go Green Club members things are in bloom at Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy. Our students have been learning about horticulture throughout this school year. Thanks to our plant beds these students will be harvesting mint, peppers, squash, and so much more. They have also utilized their skills and knowledge regarding horticulture to beautify the campus and prepare an abundance of pollination sources for the upcoming beehive observatory for the 2024-2025 school year.
Exploring the Fine Arts with Experts
In April 2024, the Carvers Bay Middle STEAM Academy dance club, “Energy Burst” went on a field trip to Coastal Dance Center where the students were allowed to learn the Art of Dance through ballet and jazz. The experience was awesome and rewarding, click below for the video.
