The Compass Notes for Families

Dear Compass Families,

Spring is in full bloom, and with it comes an exciting time of growth and reflection for our students. As we prepare for the upcoming MAP testing for grades 3 - 5 and Fastbridge Assessments for grades K - 5, we want to thank you for the continued support and partnership you provide every day.

This is a time for students to show all they’ve learned and how much they’ve grown throughout the year. These assessments help us better understand each child's academic progress and guide our instruction moving forward.

To help your child feel confident and prepared:

• Ensure they get a good night’s sleep.

• Provide a healthy breakfast each morning.

• Offer words of encouragement—they’ve got this!

Most importantly, remind them that they are more than a test score. Their effort, perseverance, and growth matter most, and we are already so proud of them.

Did you know that roller skating is a lifelong physical activity your kids can learn? During the week of April 14-19th our K-2nd grades will be doing a skating unit in PE classes. Want to help out…sign up here!

Come celebrate their new (or old) skills at the River Roll Skate Center in Riverside! We will be hosting a Compass Night on 4/22 from 6-8pm. Entrance is $6 and skate rental is $3.

On Tuesday, April 15, our district office leaders, including our Superintendant and Assistant Superintendant, came over to Compass for a school wide celebration! Our students have worked so hard all year long in reaching and growing for our schoolwide goals in math and reading! Our students have also worked hard in having positive attitudes and showing respect towards peers and adults.

Thank you to our entire school-community for celebrating our students with us!

The Cool Swim Team is building a new competitive swim team at the Platte County Community Center North for swimmers aged 8 through high school. See flier below for details.

Visitors to the building: you will always need to bring your ID with you when you come into the building. We will scan your ID into our safety system Platte County uses to ensure the safety and security of our students.

PLEASE USE THIS LINK FOR FREE & REDUCED MEAL OPTIONS FOR FAMILIES WHO QUALIFY! We would love for our families to use this option if you are in need of assistance for your student(s). Our office administration would love to assist you fill out the paperwork. We are trying to be proactive to help our families so we don't have negative lunch balances throughout the year.

Great Beginnings Preschool Enrollment opened April 1, 2025. We’re expanding to offer full & half-day preschool, now 5 days a week at:

• District Education Center
• Barry Elementary
• Pathfinder Elementary

Complete the interest form linked below to begin the enrollment process.

• Tuition for Great Beginnings Preschool is $7,650/school year for full day; $4,250/school year for 1/2 days.
• Families qualifying for free/reduced priced lunch will be tuition-free.
• Tuition reduction may be available if grant monies are received.

The Pirates ROCK End-of-Year Celebration and Sharpen the Saw Challenge Course will be at Barry-Platte Park on Friday, May 2. Course is open from 5-7pm, with the character recognition ceremony at 6pm. Pre-register here and see flier for details.

YMCA Y-Club enrollment is underway for the new school year!

The Before and After School Program available to families in the Platte County R-3 School District is Y Club. With Y Club before and after school, children in kindergarten through 5th grade will enjoy and benefit from homework enrichment, physical activity, and small and large group activities with a focus on building community and youth voice and leadership. Full-time and part-time Y Club is available at Compass, along with Y Club on days when school is out of session for inclement weather, seasonal breaks, and other days off (enrollment permitting). Operating hours are each weekday from 6:30 a.m. until school begins, and again after school until 6:00 p.m.

Spots are limited so please complete the 24-25 Y Club Enrollment Form at KansasCityYMCA.org/Yclub to secure your spot.

If you have any questions about the Y Club program, please contact YMCA at 816-360-3390.

Above is the sign up for parents/guardians to log in to your student's lunch/breakfast account. On this app, you can customize your student's amount of money spent as we are going to start ala cart options soon. You can also put money into your student's account. It will also send you notifications that your student is low on their lunch/breakfast balance.
